Shadow Caster (The Nightwatch Academy Book 1)

Excellent Academy Book
There are a lot of Academy books around at the moment. Some good, some not so good, but this one is excellent.Indigo Justice is a nightblood (vampire) woman on a mission. She’s trying to escape the expectations of parents who do not love her. So she’s fighting in the supernatural pits and working in a bar and generally avoiding coming home. Her father decides enough is enough and arranges for her to join the Nightwatch Academy, where supernaturals learn how to police themselves and where the Shadow Knights train to fight against the Fomorians, to protect the supernatural world and humanity.Indigo hates being forced into the Nightwatch Academy and doesn’t really apply herself. Her classmates resent her and her attitude and she isn’t particularly popular. Then it is discovered that she has the gene that makes her into a Shadow Knight, and she become the first woman to ever receive the training. This book is exceptionally plot heavy. Everything moves at a mile a minute and it is wonderful. As well as the plot there is a good deal of focus on the relationships between Indigo and the other members of her team as she trains to become a Shadow Knight. It’s a slow change of attitude towards her as the team works together, which I really like. There is a love interest but it’s very low key and sexy “but we can’t!” conversations. The romance is a very small part of this book, which is more about team work and friendships. There is lots more to come with this series, and I can’t wait to get stuck into the next book.

Entertaining
A little cliched in places but still a good read that was entertaining. I will definitely read the next even though teenage angst isn't really my thing.

Just WOW!!
This first in series grabs hold on page one and doesn't let go. With an amazing storyline that builds at a manic pace and characters that leap off the page. I won't even attempt to explain the story just grab it and read it you won't be disappointed, enjoy, Baz.

“The Nightwatch Academy” series book 1
Leading lady Indigo Justice has had it rough. From a prestigious vampire family, her parents have never hidden the fact they wanted a son. Indie steers clear of them; tarnishing the family name by indulging in pit fights, until her father puts her in a position where she faces attending her own execution or Nightwatch Academy. Indie of course chooses the latter, coasting along and making no effort in her studies until she is irrevocably marked as a shadow knight; the elite supernaturals who keep the realm safe from the attack of the Fomorians.Indie is an enterprising character who really grows on you as she begins to bond with fellow students. The Academy tutors are also intriguing; one of whom is clearly one of Indie’s love interests. This is a slow burn reverse harem romance, and I’ll highlight it is very slow burn. There is clear chemistry between Indie and tutor Hyde; but he is reluctant to become involved with her. As the only female shadow warrior she’s surrounded by plenty of man candy and there are hints of interest towards other characters, but nothing really concrete. The ideas are interesting, there is plenty of action and some intriguing plot twists. I’ve already snatched up a copy of book 2 “Shadow Weaver” and note book 3 “Shadow Warrior” is due for publication towards the end of this month.

Fab story
I enjoyed this story about Indi who accidentally killed a human whilst feeding, but she is convinced she was set up by her father. He wanted a son and Indi was once a twin but absorbed him in the womb. She seemed to have gained his strength and some other traits. Instead of prison she made a deal with her father to attend a Shadow Knight training academy. Here she will learn about all aspects of weapons, combat training and supernatural creature info. The protect The Mist which is man-made and has electronic outposts to keep the Others at bay. It's atmosphere is also made using some kind of gas which is harmful to Others. But over the year, some have adapted to the Most and can stay in it longer making it so more patrols are required. The Other attack the outposts so they have to be frequently maintained. Also, in The Mist, there are other creature which have evolved which are trying to get through to this side.On campus though, cadets keep being found without any of their memories. Is it some part of Other attack?

What a discovery!
I've only just discovered Cassidy and wow am I fan. I loved this book and it's so well written. The guys are hot and broken, there's a good storyline and it's different and refreshing to other fantasy/paranormal books. Absolutely blown away and shocked that I haven't stumbled across this talented lady before now.

Well developed with a fresh spin on PNR
Refreshing take on classic paranormal lore. The World building was great, author did a great job painting different pictures and exploring how things worked. I find that this is an area that falls short in a lot of different books in the genre. Where you see an author has a great idea but doesn't quite know how to tie it together with the right imagery so the reader can appropriately imagine the space or world they are creating. I'm happy to report that this was beautifully done here. Another positive is the character development you see throughout the book. I love the journey the MC goes on with self discovery and finding power in vulnerability at times. Finding the balance between tough and bad ass with a soft underbelly can be hard to create and I appreciated the way the MC was brought to life and then the noticeable growth by the end of the book. That leads to my other exciting news! NO CLIFFHANGER, at least not in the irritating "I stopped in the middle of the story so you have to buy the next book" way some other authors do. This is a complete story with an incomplete overarching storyline so there is much unresolved at the end but also, you do feel a sense of closure if you choose not to continue. I, myself, am HOOKED! Nothing is quite as fulfilling as a likable MC, solid world building and imagery, and developed characters with relatable quirks and character flaws that allow for character building throughout the book. My one main note for those of you craving romance, this is a SLOOOOOW burn romance. There's some steam in there and I have hope it will continue to develop throughout the series because, it's noticeably developing but if you're looking for something hot, heavy and fast paced this is not going to hit the spot.

A fun new fantasy world
I enjoyed this book, the new fantasy world that the author created is great, its edgy & sexy with a dose of kindness and heart. I like the main character, the kickass heroine, who can really kickass. There are some great secondary characters, interesting new fantasy races/Creatures and a great story that i am looking forward to reading the next part of

Decent start to a new series
At first I wasn’t clear on what was going on. I don’t understand why Indie’s parents treat her like they do. I mean we get the reason why but I don’t get why it’s such a huge issue for them.I think there’s more to Indie than meets the eye and I think her being a shadow or whatever will enable her to do more.In this we see some potential love interests, but nothing more than a stolen kiss here or there happens. Though there’s tons of attraction thrown around.Something I dislike of this author’s writing and this is my fourth series of theirs, is how they use the word monolith in legit every single book, as well as going to sleep and the next scene being not the next morning but some other time. Sometimes I want to see how awkward the morning was or there are some interactions I want with characters to be seen.I’m definitely interested but this isn’t my favorite yet. It was pretty slow going to start and I had trouble focusing on this one. Still I kept going and it got better. I’m curious if their enemy is actually their enemy.
