cat likes them - not totally convinced they do the job

My cat is 11 and has had insanely stinky poo. He has always been an indoor cat up until 6 years ago when we got a dog and installed a doggie door. We have younger cats who immediately took to it and are completely indoor/outdoor cats. Our 11 year old cat finally caught on and figured out how to use it, and my hubby and were so thankful we were able to do away completely with the litter box. About three years ago when the cold, wet weather came, Clayton decided he didn't like pooping outside and started pooping in one spot in the house. His poo was incredibly foul, mushy and green. His behavior and temperment never changed, he continued to eat and drink water like normal so we decided not to take him to the vet (for those who are questioning this, Clayton does horrible with new people and new situations and becomes very aggressive when we've attempted to take him in the past; this is normal behavior for him). I continued to clean up his poo for about a week when I finally gave in and got out the litter box. Every autumn now we put up a litter box for him and we put it away towards summer. However, his poo is so foul it travels through the entire house. In the past we have just relied on room sprays to mask the smell. This year I decided to try probiotics and in my search came across this product. I figured using both would be the most beneficial. I went with a different brand of probiotics, which I think is helping because his poo has become slightly firmer. I am still on my first bag though. This product however seems to finally be working, after about a week and a half of consistantly giving him thr supplement. His poo isn't as rank and I don't have to immediately spray down the house when I hear him in the litter box. There is still stink to it, more than a normal cat's, but it is at least improving. I was afraid he wouldn't like these since there are some reviews that state their cat wouldn't touch it. Clayton gobbled 2 up the very first time I gave these to him. I was surprised he liked them so much, but then again he loves chewing on our pet safe house plant leaves. After I gave him these, I tried to give him 2 probiotic supplements, which are supposedly liver flavored, but he turned up his nose and walked away. A few hours later I was able to get him to eat them and now he loves both supplements. Since startimg him on them, he has become more affectionate, but I think that is more of a rouse to get more treats rather than the treats effecting his behavior. I bought 2 more bags of these and the probiotics, hoping they will continue to help. I am so pleased not to have to deal with his stench and I am not going through room sprays as much now.

First, they're way too big. They're about 1/2 inch long, 1/4 inch at the widest, and a little over 1/8 inch thick. I would much rather try to give her two than have to try to break up the treats (which crumble pretty easily). They are also just not appealing to her. The smell is really strong, which I think is why she won't eat them. I'm currently experimenting with different ways to give them to her (I am TERRIBLE at force feeding cats). So far I've tried a little catnip spray to peek her interest, but that didn't work. Pill pockets kind of work, but I have to use 2 per treat (which is expensive) and it's touch and go if she really swallows the treat or just the pocket. Next I'm going to try some wet food and just crushing it up. If I can get her to eat them, I'll update this on her reaction to it. Update: I crushed them in some Merrick wet cat food and she did eat a good portion of it (not all of it). However, her breath smells so freaking awful! Granted, this could be the cat food, but you would think that if this stuff is supposed to help with bad breath, that her breath wouldn't be worse.

I have a male rag doll cat that will be a year old in two months. In recent months I’ve noticed that his poo smells horrific and my cat just so happens to be the type that thinks he’s king of the house and will not cover any of his waste with litter. My cat just used the litter box and exits without a care in the world. I also have an automatic chill x litter box which I hoped would help with his smell but it did not, leaving me feeling helpless. Then one magical day I saw an ad for these and gave it a try and boy am I happy I did. It’s only the SECOND day of him having these treats and I already can’t smell ANYTHING! I live in a small one bedroom apartment with an open concept living room/kitchen so when my cat uses the litter box I can definitely smell it in the whole area but tonight I watched my cat walk into the litter box and even he was stunned! He usually just uses the litter box and hops out fast because he doesn’t cover anything but tonight on only the second time of having these treats he used the litter box and even was trying to figure out why he couldn’t smell anything by hanging out in there for a minute. I just give him two whole treats in the middle of the day and he eats them no problem and he even comes running when he sees me get the bag out. They do have a strong Oder and you should wash your hands after but it smells like a seasoned treat which I believe to be normal. If your cat can handle something that’s not super soft then give these a try! Also my cat eats dry food so he’s used to eating something more crunchy which I’m not sure if that matters or not but for the miracle these treats did I will never not buy them!

Update: somewhere between week 2 and week 3 my cat stopped eating these. For a while it was hit or miss whether she would take the “treats” but now she is just straight up rejecting them. Bummer! I did start to notice the smell coming from her litter box a lot more on the days she didn’t take them so they do work but it might not last if you have a picky cat. ———- Original review: I think only time will tell but it seems to work so far! There is a noticeable decrease in the odor coming from my cats litter box. On the other hand, it seems to be hit or miss whether my cat will eat these. They appear to go bad really quick if left out!! When you take them out of the bag they are on the firmer side and a light brown. If it sits out for more than 30 minutes- 1 hour it starts to turn dark brown and will get mushy/sticky. At that point my cat won’t dare go near it. She smells it and legit recoils. So that’s a huge bummer. I have wasted quite a few because she didn’t eat it right away and it went bad. I recommend keeping an eye on your cat. If they don’t take it out of your hand right away, put it back and SEAL THE BAG UP. It also appears the flavor my cat likes is lightly dusted on the outside of these treats. Sometimes she will just lick it off and leave it there. So I don’t know how long these will last. One more thing: these treats are h u g e. At least for my cat. She has a really hard time eating these. I would recommend breaking it in half if your cat will eat it that way. Smaller gripe: the bags are small. There are 45 chews in a bag and you are supposed to give them 2 per day so it lasts an awkward 21 days or so. Maybe they do that to prevent the treats from going bad (see above) but it’s still annoying. For $6 it was worth the try.
