I Used to Be Famous

Precious In Every Way
Although its main protagonist is assumed to be African American, the author is not as such (i.e., Norman Lear Syndrome--no shade intended). It is, however, adorable in every way. The author is spot on with the depiction of sibling rivalry turned into hilarity and an adorable perception of one's role as a child that is the center of attention until being "upstaged" by a new family member. Of course, I expect that they will be "stars" together forever to their family and those that love them (myself especially). Too cute for every wonderful word in the dictionary. (Yes, I am the one for whom this book was purchased, hence the age rating.)

Perfect Sequel
Perfect follow up to I AM FAMOUS with a new sibling thrown in. Kiely and Abby are adorable. It's a common problem for older siblings, sharing the spotlight with the new little ones. It seems you just can't win sometimes, but spunky Kiely figures it out with a little help from little Abby. Great gift for families who are expecting to add a second little one into the mix.

As Good as the First!
My kids are huge fans of I AM FAMOUS. So we had to get this sequel and it does not disappoint. The humor is spot on and the art is giggle-worthy yet sweet. A perfect gift, especially for an older sibling.

An adorable perspective on sibling rivalry
Drama. Denial. Despair! What's a child to do when the new baby steals the spotlight? Using a theatrical platform to set the stage, Tara Luebbe and Becky Cattie (co-authors), and Joanne Lew-Vriethoff (illustrator) invite us into the mind (and heart) of a fabulous 'famous' big sister grappling to find her place amidst the change. Perhaps there's room in the script (and the house) for one more (admittedly cute) performer...

cute and funny big sister/new sibling story
I Used To Be Famous is an adorable and funny take on the classic big-sibling story. It’s a sequel to I Am Famous, but you don’t have to read that one first to understand and adore I Used to Be Famous. This is a great example of a character driver picture book with both humor and heart. The main character, big-sister Kiely, has a BIG personality and is lots of fun. My favorite line: “I have no choice. I must confront this moppet.”The illustrations are super cute and do a great job of enhancing the story with humorous details and wonderful expressions. My favorites are the picture of the baby dumping a pot of sauce over her head, and the adorable spread where Kiely realizes (to her delight) that her little sister think she’s entertaining.

Fun Story with Big Heart!
An adorable story about the disruption a big sibling feels when she has to share her parents' attention once a new sibling joins the family. Reader's explore the range of emotions the main character experiences as she grapples with this big adjustment to her world. I Used to Be Famous is an excellent conversation starter and gift for growing families.

Kiely is BACK--but now a cute little co-star is trying to steal her spotlight!
Kiely is back and poised for another blockbuster in this adorable, plucky follow up to I AM FAMOUS. Now a pro at all things Showbiz, she’s ready to sit back and bask in the glow of her fame when, one day, the spotlight shifts and an unwelcome co-star appears on stage—a brand new baby sister! Flabbergasted, Kiely tries to upstage the stinky little moppet with every scene-stealing trick she knows, but eventually she admits defeat. When the kid turns her megawatt cuteness her way, however, Kiely begins to warm up, and suddenly the idea of a tiny co-star isn’t quite so bad.Luebbe and Cattie capture the ups and downs of becoming an older sibling in this adorable book, and Vriethoff’s illustrations are brilliant, once again, allowing these two little starlets to shine their brightest.
