Good buy
I was on the fence for a long time. I like to buy products ONCE if possible - pain upfront, but a better experience throughout. I debated going with a $300+ model or even getting a used commercial unit. Not on a whim - I spent a summer saving up for college (many years ago) by slicing deli meat at the local grocer, so I know my way around a slicer. The value of this couldn't be denied, however, at about $95 on sale.Does this remind me of the commercial units I used to use? No, not at all. Those things cut through meat and cheese like it wasn't there. It could lop the tip off your finger so cleanly that you wouldn't even realize you were cut until you saw red (ask me how I know). But! Can this give similar results with patience and care? Absolutely. I had no issues 'chipping' meat by slicing it so thin the grain gives up. It does however feel the effort - this is up to 10 times slower to process 4lbs of beef than a commercial unit. However, I don't need to use this all day, all the time. So it's fast enough for home use.Main complaints: it's small, light, and moves readily if not braced by your second hand. There is no good place to hold with your second hand either - so you will be resetting this on your countertop regularly during a session as it walks away from you. The only other complaint I have is that it is unwieldy to process more than about a pound at a time. The platform is just too small. So you will have to batch your cuts.On the upside: easier to clean than expected. Sharp enough blades. Secure and safe to use, low hazard potential with care. One tip: when new, soap and water is not enough to remove the protective oil from the blade. I suggest mounting the blade after washing, turning the machine on, and polishing the entire blade surface, front and back, with food oil on a paper towel held against the rotating surface (use vegetable, peanut, olive, whatever you have on hand). Then remove and wash again. The amount of black material (presumably iron from the production and sharpening of the blade) that comes off on the paper towel makes me grateful I didn't go straight to cutting. Soap will NOT remove this on its own.Overall I'm happy to own this and glad I saved the $$$. I would take my old commercial unit over this in a heartbeat, but those were about half the size of my oven, and probably cost five times as much as said oven.A good product.

5 Star Slicer - - 100 Star Customer Service!
WOW! GREAT slicer, and FANTASTIC Customer Service! Very impressed with the overall functionality of the slicer. It has plenty of power, and the thickness setting stays put and does not move as on some of the cheaper brands. The cleaning was a bit tedious, but not enough of a problem to lose a star. Now for the Customer Service - - - Upon moving the slicer off the counter I noticed a small piece of white plastic laying where the slicer had been sitting. Examination showed that it was most likely a fin off of the cooling fan for the motor. I notified Borlebbi via email of the potential problem. Within 48 hours I had received a brand new replacement unit! For Customer Service I would them 100 Stars!I would definitely purchase this item again.

Surprisingly handy kitchen tool.
My wife said we wouldn't have the counter space for this, but I'm still glad I got it. It's interesting how many things you can find to slice once you get a meat slicer! The good stuff: This Borlebbi has got plenty of power to slice through semi-frozen roast beef, but can also cut through tomatoes for Carprese salad just as nicely. I also use mine to slice to uncut loaves of bread for sandwiches. It has four suctions at the base that securely keep it in place. Cleanup is fairly easy, considering all the spots where meat-bits can hide. The blade locks into place without any play, yet can be easily removed/replaced in a few seconds for cleanupThe not-so-good stuff: This machine is a little loud. The thickness knob is maybe a little bit too large since I find my hand bumping into it as I slide the carriage back after each slice. The four suctions at the base really hold it well, but they can be very difficult to disengage when you are done. lastly, the hand guard for pressing the meat down is made of a light, cheap-feeling clear plastic that will definitely get cloudy as it scratches over time.Other details: The distance between the carriage and the blade is about 6.5" and the usable blade height is about 5" max, so anything you slice has the be smaller than that. I got a ham that was 8" long, so I had to cut it to fit in this slicer. Also, the carriage slides much more smoothly if you add a few drops of vegetable oil to the carriage guide rod. Lastly, the blade does not spin terribly fast, so I find I have to slice slow and steady to get good cuts.

Does the job, easier to clean than expected
This is not, by any means, the same quality as the slicers they use at the deli counter, but for my needs it has worked wonderfully. I used it to slice eye round to make beef jerky. I sliced onions paper thin as a sandwich topping. I used it to slice homemade pastrami and corned beef for sandwiches. It has no problem slicing through the meats, and it takes just a few minutes to clean it thoroughly. Only regret is not buying it sooner.
