Perfect fit for my old coast to coast 12 gauge.
I have an old coast to coast 12 gauge Mossberg pump shotgun, the original safety literally broke in half from age and use, it's a 3 minute fix with this replacement. 100% happy.

Excellent Upgrade.
The original safety knob on the Mossberg M590A1 seems designed to separate your thumbnail, from the nail bed every. single. time. you engage it - even wearing gloves! My only regret about this upgrade is that I waited so long to do it. WATCH A HOW-TO VIDEO FIRST! After watching a video that let me see how to install the new knob without losing the tiny ball-bearing in the works, I was able to easily swap this part out in just a few minutes. I would never go back to the OEM safety knob after using this one - and I really like the red color. The parts are well made, the anodizing seems high quality, and I don't doubt that it will last a lifetime, just like the rest of a Mossberg shotgun.

Could be smoother
I like the way it looks but it is rough to slide up and down

Looks and functions great!
My Mossberg 500 factory safety screw has a funky head style, but was able to unscrew it with a thicker slot head driver. Best to place gun upright in vice and work slowly. Make sure gun is unloades and place safety on. Remove the factory plastic safety and thin metal safety slide, slowly . You will see a tiny ball bearing sitting on a small spring. You can leave the ball on the spring, or replace it with new ball provided with this safety lever. A magnet is helpful, so as not to lose the small parts. Simply insert the provided screw through safety catch top and factory metal safety slide- the same orientation as removed from the gun. (Choose direction you want this aftermarket safety catch to face) Place a dab of blue locktite on the screw and carefully place the catch and metal slide over ball bearing on top of spring. There will be a detent on the safety slide to capture the ball. Press down on the new safety catch compressing the ball and spring, then tighten the hold down screw. Tighten until everything is flush and no wobble. Then tighten just a bit more. Do not overtighten.

Nice grip for the safety switch on my 500.

Be different.
Not a necessity, but it does make the Mossberg looks pretty.

Better quality than the stock one
Definitely an upgrade to your Mossberg shotgun. The stock safeties are notorious for sticking and not being adjustable due to a one-way safety screw. These have a nice adjustable Allen bolt so you can tighten or loosen your safety over time which is nice. The large thumb-tab also makes it much easier to toggle, especially with gloves on. They're also aluminum instead of plastic, which should last longer. I bought a Mossberg so I can still use it at 99, and I'm not sure why the new ones have so many plastic components compared to my dad's Vietnam era one. My one note is installation is not the easiest. During installation, my safety fell into the receiver and I ended up having to disassemble the trigger mechanism to get it back. Some forums suggested laying the shotgun on its side during installation to prevent this from happening, but I'm not sure how well this would work. Also, to remove the original safety screw I found it works well to put a piece of duct tape over it and then unscrew it as a normal screw through the tape.
