There are sticky pads to protect the door, but the top of the brackets will mar the door frame if there isn't enough room

I suppose it would depend on the width of the rail you were attaching it to as the “hooks” are made to the width of a standard indoor door.

You can, but there are foam pads on the back that you could either remove to make it flush against the wall, or you'd have to make some sort of offset mount. Or just use extra long screws. (Instead of using the brackets)

Would this work on a trampoline?

I guess you could try but I doubt it would stay well.
