A Swift Humming Giant
This Drive is Extremely Powerful and Reliable. Not to mention it arrived to me with a capacity of nearly 2800 GB for a price of less than $50, and for my purposes that is more than I could have asked for. However, Buyer Beware, know what you are getting into before you buy this drive. This drive is not silent, but it is not overly loud either. Which I think is perfectly reasonable considering that this drive's original and intended sole purpose was to be used as a part of fast and reliable mass storage arrays in server centers. I have and do currently game on this drive. In my computer’s case, which sits on the ground 3 ft away from me the sound of the drive is comparable faintly to an old optical drive sinning up. And this sound occurs only occasionally when the drive is under full load. I’m not a Twitch streamer and I usually play games with a fan on anyway in the summer, so the sound is not really a problem for me personally (Although in some cases I will probably transfer a long movie to a quieter drive before watching). I don’t know the performance spec in and out of these drives, but the one I received loads games as fast as you would expect a good 7200rpm drive to, and it transfers large files and file/folder directories at rates in excess of 100-200 MB/s. The fact that this HDD has been refurbished and backed by Amazon warranty makes it a super great and affordable deal for all your mass storage over SATA even if you’re a budget gamer looking for the best bang for your buck on a secondary game drive. Don’t install Windows OS on this! Buy a cheap SSD instead.

I spun it up for the first time literally 30 mins ago,
but I'm impressed by the write speed (180MB/s on what I assume is sequential data). It also came with SMART numbers reporting as a new drive, no partition table, and the entire device secure-erased (or never written to in the first place, I can't tell which). All in all, it appears to be a cheap and fast 3TB 3.5" internal disk drive that wasn't even "renewed." I'll never bother coming back in six months, but for what it's worth, there's my review after 30 minutes. EDIT: so I did come back a month or two later after all, honestly. The SMART attributes were reset, but there's an entry in the SMART self-test log for an offline check. The powered-on hours are listed there as 5.7 years. But honestly, the drive works great and shows no sign of failing. I just wish they hadn't secure-erased it and reset all apparent signs of its age. I'd buy it again, great drive for the price, but I take issue with their business practices.

It's a little noisy.
My Seagate 1.5TB Barrucuda recently kicked the bucket after 7 years and I needed a replacement drive. I decided to go with the most dependable name in hard drives, HGST. This hard drive is not the fastest out there but it's used in data centers around the world for its reliability. So far, it's worked like new. The main issue here is noise. It's not loud but it's noticeable. Considering this drive is intended for the data center, this makes sense because drive noise is not of concern if it's going to be in a back room or closet for it's whole life. However, since I am only using it as a backup drive I rarely use it so the noise isn't that big of a deal.

Very nice for refurbished drive
Hitachi drives are right up there as lasting a long time and working at top speed. Altho I wish this was bigger than the 3 terabytes offered (5 would have been perfect) I can't complain. I store a lot of television and feature movies on external Sata drives using a USB plug-in dock. If you are into external drives for storing stuff, Hitachi drives are the best!

Gimme Another
I bought this drive on Oct.11, 2018 which is now 6 months ago and there is nothing to complain about concerning it. It's quiet and fast and looked brand new when unpacked. When I ran drive history sofware and checked the drive for hours of use it showed 0 hours and indicated no bad sectors and no problems so it was truly refurbished correctly. I was loathe at first, buying refurbished, but the warranty reassured me so I went for it and I'm a happy camper. I had noticed the seller goharddrive on Amazon for awhile and they have excellent ratings and can be trusted to honor their warranty. Also I love me some Hitachi HDs: to me they're the best. My friend only buys refurbished hardware. His logic being that refurbished hardware or drives are life-tested items that have failed, and then repaired, so that the chances of failure for them are less than new drives. There is some strange logic to what he says and so far it's worked great for him moneywise. In any case I've changed my view about refurbished for some items. My drive is now 3/4 full so I'm going to buy another one from gohardrive. That is how I noticed that I never reviewed this drive and so I did so now. A 6 month review is more meaningful than a one week review in any case. This drive is highly recommended, and don't even get me started about the price, I mean at that price it's a steal. You know that. Later , got a drive to buy.....

Item was DOA and was a big waste of time.
Received this item yesterday. Since I had a client on a budget to set up network-attached storage I decided to go with this drive until they are ready to upgrade in December. This was a mistake and a waste of time since this hard drive is not even being recognized. I made sure it wasn't the connections going to it by hooking this drive up to my External Hard Drive kit that works and has been working for years. It spins and has a vibration feel every 5 seconds but it is not being recognized at all. I am not even able to format it to Exfat since it isn't being recognized to be used. Now I have to put my client on hold and look very unprofessional because I arrived during our scheduled appointment for me to set up their NAS. I wouldn't advise this drive to anyone looking for something long term or even short term.

It’s nearly new. Only about 1 year of hours clocked works great !

95 thousand hours it is too much. Not sure it will work long.
