I bought 3 popular models to try
I recently tried This Free Paws 4hp model and two others available here: the 4hp USA made Metrovac (made tough, strong air flow, replaceable parts, loud at both the motor and outlet), and Shelandy 3.2hp (not as strong as you want if you have a Husky or similar coated dog. But one of the cheapest available). While I didn't test them all side by side, it was within a few days of each other so my memory was still fresh.*Compared to the 4hp Metrovac this was slightly less powerful probably. Nothing I'm concerned with even though the power was the #2 important thing for my needs. (#1 was reliability).*It is also a fraction of the noise of Metrovac.*The main part of the case is steel.*I like the pronged brushes but for the most power (drying and undercoat removal), the coned attachment is the best. Having the pronged ones was one of the reasons I settled on this model though.*It can be rested vertical as well as horizontal.*It gets plenty warm with no heat on. (The extra heat should probably never be used then, and is just another thing to go wrong).*The baffling is pretty severe to get this quiet. It is interesting so I included a pic of it. While I was impressed with that, It getting so hot tells me it might make the motor last longer to free it up some (which I may do). It's nice to have quiet as an option though. -[Note- I took a look at the design and there didn't seem like there was much in the way of freeing up the intake. I tried it without the inner baffle and it got just as hot and was the same volume to my ears. I'll be keeping it with all the baffles because it adds filtration.]*The hose is really nice. It shrinks to a small size when not in use and expands a lot on full volume. It also locks and seals nicely compared to other models. (the Shelandy had a super dinky system that will probably break in time. The Metrovac simply used a push on system. As long as it works over time I wouldn't care).*The metal comb that came with it is nice quality actually.Overall I am happy enough so far to have settled on this model. For my needs the Metrovac is probably best, but I ran into a seller dispute that made me bitter about the brand. (Probably an irrational decision admittedly). The Free Paws is strong enough for what I am willing to pay, has pronged attachments the others don't, and better baffling. The one thing I can't test yet is reliability, which is why not 5 stars yet. The reviews are sort of scattered on reliability, and plain bad compared to Metrovac. The current listing does say lifetime warranty on parts... which would be awesome... but according to other reviews, might be total and complete BS sadly. I will update this as time goes by.Update. Couple months gone by probably. I use it almost everyday on my Husky since she loves swimming and normally would take a day and a half to dry otherwise. No problems at all yet. I never use high heat, but everything working like new so far.

However if you groom a lot of newfies probably not the best choice. The hose is so light to hold ...
I am a dog groomer and usually use a master blaster dryer or a K-9 II. The power of this dryer is about the same as using one speed on those two but I've used it on a few different coat types and it hasn't really taken me any longer to dry them. However if you groom a lot of newfies probably not the best choice. The hose is so light to hold and when it's off its nice and short so I don't trip over it all day. I haven't needed to use the heat setting it warms up enough without it. I like the adjustable speeds for cats and scared dogs. Nice little dryer for sure.

Good price point, delivers strong volume of air
Mixed feelings about this item.1. Powerful dryer if compared to hair dryer. Not as powerful as the $400 versions which whisk water away from dog hair instantly.2. Slow to dry compared to commercial dog dryers. Faster than hair dryer. Much more volume of air than a hair dryer.3. Air volume has 2 settings. A lot, and a little less. Both are quite strong.4. There is 1 heat setting - on or off. Medium heat, will not burn the dog.5. The control knob does not work out of the box. Minus 1 star. This is for show only. Its a scam to put a knob there for no reason!6. Tools are okay, you will use 1 or 2 often, and never use the others.7. Hose is right length, screws in or out easily.8. All other parts are good, including main dryer body. Color is very nice, I like deep yellow. Cord is good length.9. Price is excellent compared to $400 dryers! This is the main reason I bought it.Overall, for the price you cannot complain. It delivers a high volume of air for small or large dogs. Very useful also as a mini blower / compressor for small household cleaning jobs.

A must have!
This blow drier is perfect for our Samoyed!Build is solid and easy to use in those messy moments of washing a puppy. Koda was 12 weeks old when we got this, so we very slowly introduced him to blow drying and he has taken very well to it after many many treats. He tried to chew on the hose a few times with razor sharp puppy teeth and they didn't penetrate the hose at all. It's light enough to transport back and forth easily. We use this after baths for about 20 minutes before he's completely dry; and after we come back inside from playing in the rain in about 2 minutes before he runs around the house.I had no idea how much I needed one of these until I bought one. I now use this drier for everything from wet socks to my car after shampooing the carpet! lolUpdate 11-27-17: 9 months later, using at least once a week and this blow dryer is amazing. Still works great!

Great little powerful dryer
I own standard poodles so I needed a powerful replacement for my old Double K Challengair. A new Double K is over $200 and I was hoping to spend less this time. Based on so many positive reviews by professional groomers I decided to purchase this dryer and I'm very glad I did.For starters this is very lightweight so it's easy to store away in a closet. You can adjust the velocity by turning the dial which will be great for drying small dogs (who can get blown off a table with a too powerful dryer) or puppies who are afraid of very loud sounds. It has heated drying which my old forced air dryer didn't have and that's a big plus. One small note is that the hose is somewhat shorter than the Double K but you just need to place the dryer on top of a table next to you.I'm very happy with my purchase.
