If you love Max/MSP and Synthesis, you'll freak out!
An excellent book to get into Max/MSP. This book not only reviews the basics of the software but gives an in-depth understanding of certain overlooked objects. It is very easy to fall in love with this book because of the immense focus on organizing the chapters into Theory and Practical parts. Kudos to the authors! Can't wait to get my hands on Volume 2!

Buy it
Great book, tons of audio and video examples to download. It’s written as a stand alone course

I would buy it even if it was a bit more expensive.
While reading the whole chapters, I was seriously thinking of confessing my love to the author. I felt like what I learned at school was not enough at all, but I was an absolute beginner at the same time so was a bit worried buying this book. However, this was absolutely "kind". I like how they divided it into theory parts and practice parts, which actually made my study really efficient, and they made it really easy to understand. Recently I bought some DSP books, and those are full of equations but in this book, Electronic Music and Sound Design, you will see only a few simple equations which are also well explained in a very familiar spoken language. I'm really satisfied,Now I'm a bit excited I'll modify my review when I become calm. It's not a good review.

Best books on computer music and Max/MSP by far.
I have the previous edition of this and the second volume, and have a large number of computer music and programming books. These books (V1 and V2) stand way above the rest, far and away the most thorough and well written guide to doing computer music with Max. I'm a professional programmer and I refer to these constantly as they complement the built in help and manuals very well.
