Made me fall in love with neuroscience again
This book was tremendously well written! A bit about my background - I’m a former MSc Clinical Neuroscience graduate from King’s College who’s been out of academia and studying, taking a break from the howling PhD rejections I’ve been going through. However, I wondered what it would be like to learn about the brain and neuroscience from a lay perspective, as well as learn about non-clinical topics. Hence, I decided to purchase this book and was not disappointed! It was informal, yet very informative, and the author did a remarkable job of presenting in-depth, complex information, disseminating sophisticated research to the wider audience. And I am especially thankful as this book rekindled my passion and love for neuroscience, and I’m particularly grateful for the last two chapters which offered guidance and inspiration. A job well done for this book, I definitely hope to keep up with the continued work from the author!

No Images - All Writing
A little bit disappointed as this book has zero images - bought for my 16 yr old who does not like reading But I hoped it would inspire him to read as hes very interested in this subject - i think the fact that there are no images may deter him from reading it. Might Return it

Contents informative but book much smaller than expected and lacking in diagrams.

A fantastic read
A fantastic read! The down-to-earth language introduces concepts very clearly, even to someone who knows nothing about neuroscience! Plenty to peak your interest and to encourage further reading

Good read!!
Loved the first half of the book, very well written, and easy to understand but the second part, or starting with chapter 3, I don't know, it wasn't appealing to me.

amazing read
i loved this book! i can appreciate British humour and loved how he incorporated it into such a “heavy” or “wordy” subject. This book was an easy read and he wrote it in a way that is accessible for those like myself whom have never taken a neuroscience course or for those like Mike who have so much knowledge in the subject. It was interesting the way he broke up the chapters and made it easier on the head, i really appreciated that!

Great for non-scientists and scientists alike!
I normally do not read this type of book, but I was pleasantly surprised how funny and accessible it was. The first section explains questions about the brain. They were varied and really interesting, and things I have thought about myself. My favorite was the part explaining why some people seem to instantly click with one another and become friends more easily when they meet. The chapter explaining strange things the brain does was great, and I now feel a lot more informed about how and why the brain works, and why sometimes it doesn't.There is a lot more to this book than I initially thought when I bought it, for example, the chapter about how to get more involved in science, if you want to. Funny, and well written, and a pleasant surprise. I really enjoyed it.

Pick-Up and Learn
Reading increases knowledge, but not all reading is easily digestible. This is a great "pick-up and learn" kind of book.Tranter uses short and blunt sentences throughout the book that made it easy for me to follow. The chapters touch on a little bit of everything, from what neuroscience is to breaking down popular futuristic topics we all read about in headlines.Overall enjoyable read to keep you learning.

Very Good Book
This book is well-written by someone who is an expert in neuroscience explaining interesting topics in layman language.
