Q: I want to use this for just storage on a ps5 & xbox series x. will any cable that is usb c & usb a on other end work?

Not exactly, no. While any USB A to C cable will technically work, the XBox will be very unhappy with you unless your connection to this "external disk" runs at least at USB 3.0 speeds. This pretty much means your cable needs to be rated for USB 3.0 (or better) or it won't work well with your XBox (so avoid using those cheaper USB cables on the market). On my XBox Series S I bought a 2 pack of (2 foot) USB 3.1 cables for around $10 on Amazon. And when I used one of those cables with my XBox, the Xbox was happy with this SSD (and immediately offered to format the drive for storing my games). And after format, I could then move (and play) any games I wanted from this SSD (except the few games that XBox insists need the "internal" storage of the console itself).
