This book changed my life!!
This book truly did change my life. I suffered for 16 years with horrible debilitating migraines. Each passing month and year they grew stronger and more frequent. I tried everything and went to every type of doctor trying to discover the cause and cure. Nothing ever made a difference. A friend recommended this book and I bought it and read it in 2 days. I couldn't put it down! I decided to give the program a chance. The adjustments are difficult to make at first... I won't even pretend that it was easy. But about 3 weeks into it (being very strict with the dietary changes) I noticed my migraines and headaches starting to get further and further apart. One day I realized that I woke up without a migraine that morning! Then one day I realized that I didn't have a migraine or headache at ALL that day! Then suddenly I found myself counting how many DAYS it had been without having a migraine or headache!! It has truly been a miracle in my life!! It's now been over 2 years without migraines and headaches and some other great things have happened as a result too.... I NEVER get sick anymore. I used to keep sinus problems. I had several sinus infections per year and i kept a swollen gland and sore throat and was always getting colds and such. It's crazy but I haven't had ANY of that since I started this program a couple of years ago. I also lost weight. My husband saw so many positive changes in my life that he started following it too and has felt much better. He lost weight and has had less back and knee problems. He also doesn't get sick anymore either. The difficult dietary changes were well worth the challenge and struggle at first. And now I can honestly say that it's easy!! We are VERY strict to not eat gluten. If I slip up and have gluten, sometimes I will have migraines again for 2 weeks. But the carbs are easier to play around with and it's not such a big deal to have a higher carb meal or snack once in a while as long as it's gluten free. I will forever be grateful for Dr. Turknett.

Potentially Life-changing
In just 7 weeks this book has seemingly given me control of my life back. While it might seem overwhelming to eliminate things from your diet that have become staples, in my case the trade-off has been well worth it. I've suffered migraines for over 16 years while at least getting one a month and in the last few months getting them almost weekly with each one lasting four days at a time. I was desperate for relief. Right before Thanksgiving I read both The Migraine Miracle(TMM) and Heal Your Headache(HYH) and decided to follow a combination of their guidance. Right after Thanksgiving I eliminated caffeine, alcohol, added sugar, and all grains. (And for the first 4 weeks I also cut out citrus, bananas, and onions per HYH) I also regulated my sleep schedule. So my diet has consisted of veggies, eggs, meat, cheese and some fruit. The first week I got another migraine for four days but in a way it was a good thing because it reminded me of the pain and why what I was doing would be worthwhile if it worked. The second week I was migraine free, the third week I had a very mild two-day migraine that was not so much painful as uncomfortable that I further mitigated using ibuprofen, which never would have worked in the past. The fourth week nothing. The fifth week I got a headache that went away in two hours after taking Tylenol and napping. And the sixth and seventh weeks nothing even though these last few weeks would likely have been a nightmare for me due to stress, barometric pressure changes, and hormonal fluctuations, but I've been migraine free. I've prophylactically taken ibuprofen or Tylenol here and there after a long day at the office and eye fatigue from staring at spreadsheets on the computer monitor, but have continued to wake up migraine free each day. I'm debating whether I should stockpile my sumatriptan pills each month but haven't been to the pharmacy since I started eating like this. And the icing on top? I've lost 16lbs and counting during a season when most people are gaining weight. It's been awesome to be able to wear more of my wardrobe again and buy pants sizes I haven't worn in 3 years. (I'm 5'4 and was 160 - so I was overweight but not so much so that losing that much so quickly without working out was anticipated) so needless to say I'm thrilled with the results thus far and hope it continues!

Time will tell...
So far I am impressed by the info and research in the book. It is presented in a well organized manner. For the most part it is easy to follow and understand. Although as a migraine sufferer on medication and in a fog most of the time, comprehension is not my strong suit. I think perhaps a little more effort could have been made to utilize visual aids, diagrams, lists etc instead of presenting the majority of the material in written format. Yes, I know it's a book. But in knowing your audience, many of whom suffer from severely debilitating migraines, reading paragraph after paragraph...-and then attempting to retain that info is almost impossible. But that is a suggestion perhaps for a future edit. But again, the info is good. It's just how it's presented.I've only had the book a short time so I've only tried a few of the recipes. They were good. But I can't fully comment on the rest of the recipes.I do think the diet portion of the book needed more info and better organization. First it needed a list of allowed foods. A starting point, a shopping list or something to make starting the plan simple. I struggled to know where to begin. Also I think when you're talking about limiting carbohydrates, that you should include nutritional content with your recipes so that readers can factor that into their selections.I haven't been on the plan long enough yet to see a real difference. But with all the information I learned and the testimonies I've read, I finally have the tools I need to make drastic changes in my diet. I've completely cut out bread and sugar for the 1st in my life! I will update my review when I have more results.
