DK books never surprise me when it comes to quality and information. This book is the wiki to Architecture. It also has a slip case which looks very nice. The book will tell you how buildings are made, and the names of features upon them. Really great book for understanding the construct of amazing designs.Highly recommended

Love DK books but this one is a disappointment.
A Visual History of Architecture is a grand title but usually the sort of project which DK excels in. This attempt does list many world buildings but the uninspired layout, small format and lack of detailed illustration for almost all the buildings shown make this feel like a catalogue rather than a studied exposition of architectural history. The two pages devoted to the Hagia Sofia were especially poor showing none of its beauty and grandeur. Returned my copy for a refund. I much preferred their Great Buildings which while it lists only 50 buildings deals with each as a work of art.

Very insightful book
It provides a wonderful overview on the topic of architecture and it is presented in a very pleasing manner. It would make a great coffee table book but the information is also very interesting. A great book for a novice or an expert to own!
