How does Roctane compare to original Gu? Is it worth the higher price?

Answer: There is more quantity of 'Stuff' in Roctane. I use it only for workouts of 2 hours or more or for a race. I use the Original GU for most of my daily workouts. So I think it worth having some Roctane on hand for those extended workouts but not for everyday use.

I would like to know if the gel is vegan / vegetarian?

I think so. I looked at the ingredients and the only thing that looks like it might not be vegetarian is "Gellan Gum." Not 100% sure though.

Do the caffeine free flavored really give better results than regular GU?

I use the regular Gu and the caffeine free Roctane versions (never use Gu w/ caffeine) and I do notice a difference between the regular and the roctane. I generally only use roctane on super long / strenuous hikes or backpacking routes (16+mi/4000+ elevation), so, arguably, I need something "extra" and it does seem to make a difference. I've also shared them with others (friends and strangers) who were struggling (one time, in the Grand Canyon where it was 118 and we had to climb with heavy packs). Others have made the same observation without my prompting them. It could be placebo, but it would still be worth the $$ to produce the same results.

Would these be useful in a bug out bag / ergency kit as an extra source of nutrition/electrolytes?

I don't think this is the best way given the space/weight and expiration. I'd suggest electrolyte capsules (like endurolytes extreme or saltstick). In any case, all of these would require water - electrolytes help your body maintain proper moisture levels (among other things) but cannot do that without the moisture - hence water. Having some bottled water and a water filter (and possibly the drops, like aquafina) is a good plan. Also, the real worry would be nutrition (given proper nutrition electrolytes will hardly be a problem unless extreme exertion), so some freeze-dried meals / canned goods / dehydrated foods would be good, but again, you'll need water and a stove of some sort (don't forget the lighter/matches). Just keep an eye on the expiration dates of all of these items and update them as needed.
