They just screw on like your dust caps so yes you could do what you ask but they are really intended to be extensions to make dual rear inner tire more accessible to air up.

I love my extensions and NEVER have to crawl under my Montego or Midas to check or air up the inner tires. I wouldn't care to get dirty just to check air pressure in my inner tires.
