Halo: Fall of Reach Paperback – March 29, 2016

This was a Christmas gift for my eldest son, on our 1st real Christmas together as a family. It was hard to figure out what to buy him, when he was so used to not having anything, or giving what little he had to siblings! My youngest told me "Well, he likes Halo & Dinos. So, I bought tons of JP from Amazon, bat I was stuck with Halo, not knowing what characters he had, so I went for a 30yd. pass, and bought a bunch of books. When he saw them, his face lit up! I was surprised, didn't think kids these days would be that excited about the written word!Unlike the one I ordered for him earlier, this one came packed well, so it was in good condition. It's a nice, bigger hook, so there's good value there. I'll have to let you know if it was any good after he finishes it!

This graphic novel begins with children being kidnapped and recruited into service. Each section details the training and missions of Spartans II. The last story is the fall of Reach. This is great storytelling and artwork. You get to know the Spartans II, Dr Catherine Halsey, Cortana, and others important in the fight against the Covenant.

A great value for the price. Really cool to see the book illustrated in this way! must buy for any graphic novel halo collector. (imo)

Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)A solid PG-13 read with stylized war & violence, Fall of Reach translates the early Halo lore into a visually rich graphic novel. The art style really works—clean, bold, and gritty where it needs to be, it captures the scale & tone of the Halo universe well.As someone who read Eric Nylund’s original novel, I’ll say this: you won’t get the same depth or emotional connection to the Spartans here. Some of the more intimate character moments and finer story beats are trimmed down or omitted altogether. That said, for someone unfamiliar with the novel, this is a fantastic intro to the Halo mythos.Even knowing the story inside-out, I still enjoyed seeing those moments rendered on the page. The visuals breathe new life into familiar scenes, and it’s hard not to geek out seeing key parts of Spartan history illustrated.If you're a longtime fan, it's a fun companion piece. If you're new to Halo lore, it's a great place to start. Either way, it's worth the read.

I don't know where to begin with this so like I bought this bc I just finished Halo Reach and was really interested in the other side of the series. I absolutely love this so far but goddam the packaging was horrible. Who ever packaged this basically threw in a bag and shipped it, like I don't mind a few dents so I thought I would just keep it but half way through the book the fricken spine was coming off. So I wouldn't really recommend buying it at least if they ship them the way they do. Hopefully my replacement is in a lot better shape.
