Warrior, Shield, and Star: Imagery and Ideology of Pueblo Warfare Paperback – July 1, 2000

The author, Polly Schaafsma, is a pre-eminent authority on the topic of SW rock art. I've got some of her other books that were a little less informative to me in terms of "what did the petroglyphs and pictographs mean?" This one is more more on point and informative. I'm really glad I bought this book. Stars are always so compelling to me, and she's even got a section on the relationship of star glyphs and Venus (somebody once told me that it was a consensus in archaeology that star petroglyphs were representing Venus but gave no support). It's also cool to see many of the rock art images I've seen in person in her book. Looking forward to reading it in greater detail, as it just arrived yesterday.
