Wow! A treasure trove of information.
I collect botanical art books and watercolour pigments so while this book wasn’t necessary for me it is a joy to read and contains so much information; it’s got things in I didn’t know or are presented in a better way than my grasp of them. I wish I’d had this book when I started my own paint collecting/botanic art journey. The author is really knowledgable and a brilliant artist. The books is also a great size for keeping in a bag for reference on the go. Big enough to see all the info but much smaller than the average botanical art book.

Excellent Book!
Some books of this kind give you something and nothing, in other words what you mostly knew already. For me this book has really delivered and offered a new outlook on using watercolours and not only for botanical illustration. I only wish this book had been around some years earlier when I was at art college. Highly recommend this book to anyone who loves using watercolour.

Good, with a number of pros and cons
This book is available in two formats, paperback and Kindle. The paperback version is too small, and details essential for comprehension just can't be seen, never mind understood and put to use. Kindle fares better, especially thanks to the ability to zoom in on mobile devices. However, even in the case of Kindle, colour studies done by the author's students, though they could have been very instructive, simply can't be seen because of tiny/blurred images. Why were they even included then? To frustrate readers? To make people want to take the author's £100+ online course? Goodness only knows, but even if that part of the book is only an advertisement, in the present economy it would be easier to get students willing to spend £12-15 monthly the way Billy Showell and Anna Mason have set up their online academies, than to get people to part with lump sums. But who knows, if that's what she does, it must be working for her.The author gives all the mixing examples only using Winsor & Newton Professional watercolours, so unless you either use these or have someone to tell you the equivalents in other manufacturers' products, you're at a disadvantage.Still, this is a very useful book, with helpful practical bits throughout. You've just got to keep the above issues in mind and be prepared to work around them to extract use from the book and get on with your painting.

An essential practical guide for botanical artists
A great book for learning how to mix primaries and application techniques, building up a subject's colour in different layers. You can get a vast knowledge about how to get vibrancy and depth in your painting and end up with a more natural and realistic result. This book is an essential practical guide for every botanical artist.

Excellent content, Shame about the format
Excellent content. Such a shame about the size chosen for a book where details are all - important! A4 size would have been much more successful, possibly bound to lie flat.

Beautifully detailed book
A small format book packed with information to help you to mix Watercolour paint and and create accurate colour for beautifully detailed botanical art. I already have the paper copy and have just bought the Kindle version so I can enlarge details and easily refer to the relevant section while I am painting. The paper copy is already much loved and a constant source of reference for me.

Packed with useful information
A valuable addition to a botanical artist's reference library as Jackie Isard's book is very thorough. My only complaint is that too many of the images meant to illustrate colour combinations are on the small side and less useful than they could have been.

So much valuable information about color.
I love this book. The amount of useful information is great for when you already know a little about botanical art and wish to achieve those very realistic paintings! Jackie teaches you how you can mix all the necessary colors so you don’t have to buy them all. She shows how she mixes, the proportions she uses, and give some practical examples of application. If you’re into botanical realistic art, you’re gonna love this book.Just one thing, if you’re just starting out with watercolor, this book will probably bee a little overwhelming, just remember to use it to practice color matching and it will last you for many years because you’ll keep coming back to it.
