Wise 'consumption' of information for Christians
Delivery review: I received this book on time, in good condition, and without issues.Content review: Are you suffering from anxiety? Are you overstimulated yet emotionally under-activated – experiencing commitment paralysis and accentuation of your cognitive biases? Or maybe you’re just weary of the perpetual novelty and input from self-proclaimed experts on the internet and various forms of media. Brett McCracken suggests that you may very well be malnourished, suffering from what he calls ‘information gluttony’. He offers the wisdom pyramid as a visual aid for wise living in this information age.As a physician, I was instantly drawn to this image of the wisdom pyramid which is, of course, analogous to the USDA’s nutritional food pyramid – an iconographic model devised to illustrate the appropriate serving sizes for the various food groups (This is before the food plate supplanted it in 2011, but I digress). The wisdom pyramid in turn serves as a guide to the appropriate and proportional ‘consumption’ of information in terms of amount, source, and time allocation.Written explicitly for a general Christian audience, the model is sound and essential and the book begins well by supplying the reader with a very relatable introduction. Unfortunately, after part 1, it becomes more of an exercise in exhortation than persuasion. Given this approach and the short length of the book, one may wonder if the content would have been more suitably presented as a blog entry instead (i.e., was a book really necessary?). Overall, though not revolutionary, it is helpful with useful application tips scattered throughout. The book is a worthwhile read to those remaining interested, to whom I recommend it.Rating: 3.75/5

Makes a great graduation gift
After reading this book, I have purchased multiple copies to give as graduation gifts. Few messages are more important today than the need to take a crucial look at where we draw in “wisdom.” It’s so easy to gravitate toward social media and other things the internet offers, but while the internet can be useful, it shouldn’t be at the bottom of our pyramid. Above all else, God’s word needs to be our foundation.

relevant!
Used this book and a small group lesson resource for young adults; however, it applies to all ages. It’s an easy read and at the same time thought provoking. I will read it and refer to it again.

Had to read for college
It was alright, not bad; woke me up a little to some things. I’m not the most tech consumed person but this was awakening. Little repetitive at points, but not too bad. I’ve read books that are way more repetitive before.4 stars.

Wisdom is the Principal Thing...
This is a sound, healthy, edifying book. After my initial flip through, I almost made the mistake of skipping the first section, which gives the current cultural 'lay of the land'. But, it's important, and the assessments well documented. And, it makes the next part of the book even more welcomed. The larger part of the book is an exposition of wisdom: where it can be encountered, how it acts, how we benefit. Just like Wisdom personified in Proverbs, it can be found in the most common of places, where people gather, where/when people interact, whether immediately, as in community, and also via slower means, like art or great books. The Wisdom Pyramid is both liberating and challenging. I think this excerpt is especially needed in today's fragmented world:“Read a diverse array of genres. Read books by people whose lives and perspectives are different from yours. Christians should read books written by non-Christians. Democrats should read books written by Republicans, and vice versa. It’s tempting to mostly read books by people who share your perspective. I certainly struggle with this, because it’s hard to read books that make me angry on almost every page. But I know it can reap great rewards in cultivating wisdom. Here’s a radical thought for today’s echo chamber world: you can benefit from reading something even if you disagree with much of it! An educated mind can entertain and grapple with another’s ideas without accepting them.”I will most definitely follow one of the author's suggestions when he encouraged readers to revisit favorite books. For me, this is one of those books. Most highly recommended.

Excellent book. So relevant to our current place in the world.
I feel like this book could easily have 500 pages. There are many truths that are so incredibly deep and relevant. The author did a great job pointing us in the direction and giving some insight about each point. Many thoughts he shared were exactly what I had been thinking about, I just didn’t know how to word it. Definitely recommend! Especially if you’re feeling mentally drained, exhausted and/or overwhelmed by internet and social media. Anyone would benefit from this book.

Be Wise
McCracken gives an easy to follow informational diet that will lead you to wisdom. In our overly saturated and loud world, McCracken speaks the truth of God to quiet your mind and feed your soul. This is desperately needed today. So many of us know we need boundaries around technology, but don’t know how to do it or what to do instead. McCraken lays out a simple plan for keeping proper perspective in life. This books isn’t a long, boring read. It also has discussion questions built into the end of each chapter so it is ready for your small group or book club to discuss.

A very thoughtful and brief treatment of what is an increasing reality in the lives of individuals, families and communities throughout our complex digital age. McCracken approaches the subject of pursuing wisdom in the Information Age from the perspective of a Christ follower and pastor with concern for his flock. He builds his argument for a “wisdom pyramid” thoughtfully, scripturally and intellectually using a variety of sources to support his argument. This is definitely a book I would recommend to every adult, parent, teen attempting to understand how to pursue Godly wisdom in this age of information coming at us with breakneck speed.I would also recommend it for the skeptic who is curious about the claims of Christianity and their relevance in our modern age.

The book came in good conditions and faster than expected. It was for a gift, so I cannot say much about the content of it, only that the person whom I gifted it has been reading and truly enjoying it.
