Q: does this come with the instruction sheet and extra value scale?

The value scale is printed on the other side of the trifold. Yes instructions are included. I find it very handy in the studio and Plein Air.

Q: Is this sturdy enough to use a dry erase marker on the clear part?

I don’t know that you will want to use a dry marker on the squares. These are small squares and intended to be used as guide lines.

Q: How does it compare with a gridvu?

gridvu is based on the square. It's proportionally scalable to any size of working surface from canvas to mural walls. Trains the eye to observe shape, size and proportion using a bubble level to insure vertical and horizontal line references.

top grid is about 31/4 inches tall and 2 inches wide and middle grid is 4inches tall and 11/2 inches wide bottom is 2 inches tall and 3inches wide. the see thru areas are made with a cellophane paper but is very sturdy and I've used mine for about a year with out any problem. Very useful item
