Edges of His Ways: Selections for Daily Reading

Can't recommend more highly
Ive been skeptical of devotionals before, haven't used a lot in the past. But Carmichael's words are honest and powerful, especially knowing she penned them bedridden, unable to move that whole last period of her life in her beloved India. Each short devo is her recorded "word" of the day God gave her to give to encourage and edify the staff and orphans in her orphanage, schools and haven. These devos are not martyr-sounding, preachy or lamenting, but often cheerful, gentle but convicting, encouraging, and covered in Holy Spirit fingerprints. My grandma who just passed away has kept this devotional much of her life, having grown up in Burma and India herself, then serving 60 extraordinary years in Ethiopia with my grandpa. She gave it to me to read a few months before she died, and I bought another copy online.Cannot recommend highly enough no matter your age, as a 25-year-old who is still figuring out what my life is supposed to be, who God calls me to be in it, and how not to lose sight of him in the noise and chaos. This book draws me back to God and brings focus to my time with him even when I don't have much time to give. And it's crazy how many times the entry I read for the given date specifically addresses what I'm facing that day

Favorite Amy Carmichael book!
I've been working on a goal the last few years of reading all of Amy's books. This is by far one of my favorite Amy Carmichael books! A wonderful sampling of some of the best of her writing. Each day's reading is deep, inspiring and insightful. Her writing, though so good, can be challenging to read - very deep and heavy and written in an older style. But these daily bits are just right. I'm reading it through for a second time this year. I've gifted the book to several friends too. My is one of the lovely blue hardback copies. I just love it!

I love, love
I love, love, love her. She is so deep which makes sense considering what she went through. I get so blessed and challenged. Definitely not fluffy Christianity! She tells it like it is!

and beautiful thoughts to encourage one to seek the Lord and ...
I gave this book as a gift to a friend in the hospital and she found it very encouraging and comforting. Amy herself was suffering as she wrote this book, being bedridden for 20 years. Yet she writes the most profound, insightful, and beautiful thoughts to encourage one to seek the Lord and experience his mercy and comfort and appreciate what a good Father He is!

It is excellent.
A college friend bought this devotion book for me about 25 years ago and I still use it. Bought it for several others including my teenage daughters and my mom. It is excellent.

It will draw you closer to God.
Great short devotionals for each day to really get you thinking about who God is and how much He loves you. Written by Amy Carmicheal while she was bedridden from injuries in India while she continued to manage the orphanage she had run for years, she finds encouragement even in what seems to be very discouraging circumstances, all because she draws close to God. Very inspiring!

The 'Godly Grandmother'
Because she is able to discus authoritatively 'relational-Christianity', I would rate this 'spiritual Grandmother' FAR, FAR above conventional theologians (esp those 16th Century ones) placing a person's hand in the hand of our Lord Jesus Christ - which should be simply, the sole end of 'theology'. [End of story (nearly...)][TESTIMONY:]...had depression + spiritual depression for over 7 years (help was scarce). Kept going through this devotional each year, picking up spiritual coping strategies. Some of the entries were timely arrivals, to help with spiritual attacks. These writings were a major component in my recovery. Now, having been taught by her, I minister to others with depression, anorexia etc., often using some of her tried and tested tips. When you only have a fleeting moment with someone in distress, this GIFT is A MUST for them. She puts a person's hand into the hand of our Lord Jesus Christ (24/7), a TRUE ENCOURAGER. In a day when Jesus is often somehow getting lost in the business of Churches, this should be required reading for whole congregations, and certainly for PASTORS. (It HELPS deal with 'DRY ROT'.)[Missionaries were always seen as the heroes of Christianity (when I as growing up) and this is definitely one of them, possibly one of the greatest - and yet so unassuming and tender.]Amy Carmichael is a 'missionaries missionary', constantly helping others who came into contact with her, - the godly grandmother you wish you had.[If you're going to be a missionary - put this with your Bible in your back pack (with a roll of sellotape!).]

Daily Devotional Book
This daily devotional book has been different from our past books but it gives a new perspective and this is always good.

Edges of His ways
I guess this is my favourite collection from one of my favourite authors! Possibly my "most given away book ever" girls! (although, Elizabeth Elliot's "Keep a Quiet heart" comes a close second)Shame that this edition has such an old fashioned looking cover - but it's what's on the inside that counts!
