Complete Sonatas and Fantasies for Solo Piano (Dover Classical Piano Music)

!5☆☆☆☆☆ for edition: but 1☆ for binding (22 Errors in Page sequence!)
I've always been impressed by the quality of Dover publications, both music scores and books. This had to be a very weird aberration in the printing process. Normally the page sequence would simply progress from page 2, then page 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8... consecutively through page 261.In this particular volume the pages ran thusly:2-72, 113-120, 73-104, 121-128, 145-152, 105-112, 129-136, 153-160, 177-184, 137 -144, 161-168, 185-192, 209-216, 169-176, 193-200, 217-224, 241-248, 201-208, 225-232, 249-256, 233-240, and 257-261 End of EditionI realize the photos may not show up too well, but you get the idea.Obviously something happened in the collation process before printing, or however a book of piano music is put together and published.Amazon was kind and understanding enough to issue a total refund, without the hassle of returning it, saying I could simply keep it or dispose of it as I saw fit. This is a good edition to have on hand and very affordable. Pages are non-glare and sturdily bound, (it doesn't seem like they'd come loose), and with a little manipulation of the binding, the book will eventually lie flat on a piano rack without propping the ends down. Thankfully, no fingering numbers are included, as I usually have to modify any editor's suggestions anyway: hand and finger sizes and configurations differ, one size does not fit all!It would, however, be convenient to have a thematic index to refer to, as in Schirmer and some other editions.I realize a 3☆ rating is unfair, as I'm sure this particular book just "fell through the cracks" in quality assurance at Dover. I mention it only because, although I highly recommend this edition (you can't have too many editions of Bach, Haydn, Mozart, or Beethoven 😄) - I would first check with Amazon to see if there is a way somebody could check the book to verify the sequential page accuracy before it is shipped out.Thank you to the folks at Amazon for their understanding and convenient resolution to this unusual circumstance. 🥳

Great, but beware if you have a digital piano!
I love having all the solo piano works in one place! The print is big and neat (a must for a visually impaired guy like me). However, I have to warn those whose digital pianos don’t have room for a full size music rest. Because of how big and thick this thing is, which is great, it’s made my Yamaha CLP-735 Clavinova music rest fall over onto itself (not helpful when you’re trying to read it at the piano). Great product though!

Not for the Faint-Hearted
This is the sort of music I like, where there is more black on the paper than white. Extremely difficult compositions, as you would expect from the master composer.Unfortunately, it's a bound book, so it won't stay open on your piano unless you use carpenter clamps. I'm taking mine to Office Depot, where they charge a small fee to make it coil-bound.

Nice to have all Sonatas in one book.
I use this book with a student that is excellent pianist. I had the binding on the book redone at Office Max with metal spiral so it opens easily on piano and it is well worth doing. Difficult to find books with all the sonatas combined today.

Good quality sheet music
Bringing into binding old friends. Got my hands on some sheet music I haven't had a clean copy of in roughly two decades.

Lovely volume of Mozart piano sonatas
Although this is the first time that I have used this edition of the Mozart piano sonatas, it seems to be well edited. The binding seems to be of good quality so the book should be durable.

Superb Mozart
Being a fan of Dover music publications I had no hesitation in buying this superb edition of the Complete Sonatas and Fantasias for Solo Piano by Mozart as a companion to my ageing book of the complete Sonatas of Mozart in the Schirmer edition. The edition here reviewed is reprinted from authoritative editions, including Breitkopf and Hartel's Complete Works; apologies for the lack of an Umlaut - my phone doesn't 'do' them. Things don't come much better than that. The addition of the four Fantasias along with the 19 Sonatas makes this publication preferable. What I like about this collection is that every piece is here reproduced in chronological order. Well, sort of. Both Sonatas and Fantasias have a mix of catalogue numbers, as can be seen in my photos of the Index pages. The noteheads are typical of Dover's large, very readable, size and the paper quality is excellent and not at all 'glarey' as with some other editions. As with any composer's output for piano solo, I feel one is presented with an insight into the composer's soul through this most private of idioms. I had great fun in reacquainting myself with these glorious works for the first time in years, along with Haydn's Piano sonatas. In concluding then, if you haven't got these invaluable works in your possession or want an alternative edition to study with your favourite recordings or to play then don't hesitate to buy this superb book.

HAPPY HOURS WITH MOZART
I enjoy playing these pieces as the style and arrangement is easy and an amateur pianist like me can easily play the pieces. The 5 stars are well deserved

Four Stars
A great collection of Mozart's work. Not the clearest edition but for sheer amount of music it's great.
