This pad fits nicely in most puppy playpens although we used it also as a stand-alone. With puppies, it must be washed regularly so we used puppy pads as well. I think it needs to be a little thicker/absorbent for puppies and though it washes well, the backing is such that you would be best not to subject it to the dryer - hence 4 instead of 5 stars. overall, a good investment.

Excellent product

The first one I bought was the EZ Whelping brand pad. It washes in the machine perfectly and comes out of the dryer unwrinkled and flat. No shrinking and just like new. Perfect! I liked it so much, I bought another, not realizing the brand was Housables. The Housables pad came out of the dryer noticeably smaller and puckered, so it doesn't lay flat. You cannot even iron it flat. It's too late to return it and was a total waste of money. Be sure to check the brand - while they look identical they are NOT the same quality.

We foster kittens and use this brand and another on floor of a octagonal 48" diameter pet enclosure. This works nicely but keep in mind we have only used for kittens. It is sturdy though. Bottom is some kind of rubber or soft vinyl that is waterproof but makes it a little fussy to get in the washing machine and oriented so spin cycle can spin all the water out. I do not like the rubberized bottom for this reason plus if you use a dryer it must be on low heat though our other pad without the rubberized outer layer also must be dried on low heat. We find it air dries draped over a chair in about a day but we do live in a dry climate. It is cheaper than our other pad and slightly smaller though both labelled as 48". Both are slightly larger diameter than our 48" octagonal pet enclosure which is nice because it prevents debris from working its way underneath the pad. It takes about a minute to remove all the kitty toys, litter box, etc and swap out soiled pad with 2nd pad. I'd buy this again though I prefer the other one that is $5-6 more expensive.
