The taste is bland, but that's okay. They're kind of like Horlicks Malties malted milk tablets. I take one of these tabs when I'm feeling hungry between meals. It satisfies what my body needs and the hunger goes away for a while. I notice the second ingredient listed is sugar, and that's probably why. There's a package of these in my bugout bag and another in my get-home bag. I wouldn't want to live on these for a couple of days though. Also, they're kind of expensive. Not individually wrapped, but the bag has a Ziplock seal. Way better than the Daytrex lifeboat rations, which taste like cake mix mixed with shortening and leave my mouth and throat feeling like the Gulf of Mexico after an oil spill.

Survival food for different scenarios. I like to keep a stacked pantry with excess tucked aside. I then flesh it out with some super long term storage items that I can set aside and forget about. For hiking bags, Bug Out Bags, Get Home/Get Out bags and truck/car bags, I keep some easy to grab items like GORP, snack bars, meal replacement bars. I have never bothered with "survival tabs" although I have considered them on occasion. I do buy the larger survival meal bars because they have a super long shelf life and pack a lot of calories (I like them for my packs, and storing in car). But they are still low on my list for preference. What prompted me to buy these Survival Tabs is that I am at a spot that feel comfortable adding in some odd varieties. My curiosity bested me. Now I simply want to know. So I bought some. Here are some things to know: Chomping on 12 tablets of food is not going to fill anyone's belly. So don't expect it to, and don't blame the company. These edible tablets are strictly for providing what the body needs to survive- a good ratio of carbohydrates, proteins and fat, along with some vitamins and minerals, immediately. Easily digestible and absorbs quickly. Might want to try them out and get used to them if you will be planning on using these. Comes in packets or a bottle of tablets. Choose what works for you, or if you still can't be satisfied then repackaged them to your preference. If you can only access these tabs, then it is something to keep your body fueled. You will still be hungry, you will not be satisfied. This isnt for that. But it may provide just enough energy to get you through the day while you try to find more food, etc. We're talking real scarce and lean times. How lean are we talking? 240 calories per day. Not 2000, not 1700, not 1500, not 900. JUST 240 PER DAY. No surprises here, as it is all in the description. 12 tablets provide: 30 grams carbs (10% daily value), 12 grams fat (18% DV), and 4 grams protein (in general no DV is given for protein as needs vary greatly). Also packs in some vitamins and minerals, which provide 100% daily value. The calories break down into 120 cals from carbohydrates, 98 calories from fat, and 16 calories from protein. This adds up to 234, so a hair under. I have the pack of 5 (24 tablets each) for total of 120 tablets. This is supposed to make for a 10 day supply. That's going to be rough if that is all I have to work with. But it would be a welcome sight if I had it tucked deep into my bag as last ditch effort to get some nutrients. Ideally (other than having an abundance of food), one would use these to round out other food sources. Maybe alongside foraged food, where the macro balance is going to be way off. If you can find other food and liquid to provide volume to fill the belly, then you will be more or less nutritionally set by consuming these tabs throughout the day. Probably best not to eat all at once? I'm thinking that since they are quickly digested and utilized, then it might be better for the body to have a steady supply rather than taking it all in at once. Not sure, but that is how I would do it. Outside of survival I can see these being beneficial to those that dont feel up to eating or drinking, but might be able to eat this throughout the day. Or if simply feeling run down and need a quick boost- whether being sick, or out on a long hike etc. But as sole nutrition for a long period of time? no. As sole nutrition for long period of time because nothing else is available and we're at TEOTWAWKI? good luck. Not a perfect item, but I do see the benefit. Just have to try to plan as well as you can for how you will use these and understand their limitations. Be reasonable, be prepared Taste? taste doesnt matter. I have butterscotch. They're fine. Not in my mouth long enough to care. Also, if I am using these in a dire situation, then I truely dont care. 5 stars? generous 4 stars definitely Does it really matter at this point? You either want it or you dont, and I dont see anything terribly wrong.

With the possibility of a food shortage in the near future; I wanted something that could sustain us with little to no prepping, either in place or on the go. This has turned out to be a surprising benefit. I've been using them on fishing trips and on the road. I ordered the butterscotch flavor and it's delicious. I will order these agsin
