This recovery dog suit was a lifesaver!
Omg! If you have a female dog that is getting spayed or is recovering from abdominal surgery, you should buy one of these “dog onesies” as we called it, lol! Our female dog was recovering from being spayed and she absolutely hated wearing the cone of shame. She couldn’t get comfortable while wearing the rigid plastic cone on her head (first time wearing a cone) and she was miserable. After about the first 45 minutes of wearing the cone we realized we needed to look into other options for our girl to be able to recover comfortably. The vet had mentioned that our dog could wear a body suit instead of a cone, if she would tolerate it. At that time of loading her into the car to leave the vet, we sort of laughed and didn’t pay much attention to it. I mean, who has ever heard of a body suit for a dog? Well, it was not long and we were searching the internet for just such a suit. We felt bad enough that our extremely high energy, young playful pup was dealing with recovery from surgery, and the many restrictions that she would have to accept, temporarily. She is so energetic and playful, always jumping around the house, inside and out, and always with a toy in her mouth. Toys are such an important part of her daily life/ routine , and we had to take them all away for about 14 days. The vet told us we had to remove all toys that would encourage excitement and jumping/ playing , in order for her to completely heal without any complications from stitches coming open. Our dog had to take doggie downers (prescription that made her less active) to help keep her calm and more relaxed. Even still, keeping her calm and quiet/relaxed was very difficult. With her wearing this “doggie onesie” however, she was finally able to fully relax to sleep. She could not get comfortable enough to fully relax while wearing the cone of shame. While wearing the onesie, she could lick the fabric, but not get to her actual stitches. She excepted the strange new concept of wearing dog clothing and never tried to get it off by herself. Maybe part of this is because we constantly made over her and how cute she was in her dog onesie, lol. The material is very soft and stretchy, just like human baby onesies, lol. The Velcro closure is very strong and secure, yet also very easy to undo and refasten. As you can tell by some of the pics I added to this review, the onesie (Aka dog recovery suit) we purchased did not fit our dog perfectly, because our dog is a mixed breed with a longer body. Our dog is about the size of a full grown Labrador, but taller and longer bodied. Her nickname is stretch, because she the size of a Lab with about 7 inches in length, stretched out in her body. As a result, part of the time her lower neck/ almost shoulder area exceeded past the head opening of the dog suit. Thank goodness for the very stretchy fabric. The dog suit did not fit her perfectly, but it worked and we got through the 2 weeks of recovery. This purchase/item was one of the best things we have bought off Amazon. It did what it was supposed to. It aided in a more comfortable recovery for our dog, not to mention help us to keep our sanity during the process. I highly recommend buying this product if you ever have to get your female dog spayed. Also, I think it might be a good option for female dogs to wear while in heat, to help keep your house cleaner. Could probably work as sort of a dog diaper in that situation. Note: When your dog has to go potty and/or poop you really need to undo the Velcro closure and either roll it up and back (on top of their back) and refasten Velcro holding the fabric out of the way , or , remove onesie temporarily and then put back on. You may want to consider purchasing two of these. That way if one gets dirty or yucky you can wash it in washing machine (recommend air drying) and still keep one on your dog while they are in recovery.

Great alternative to the cone
This was so much easier and much more comfortable than the cone. We got it for our puppy after he got neutered. It gave him freedom and provided protection of his surgical area. We took it off for potty breaks and put it back on after. Great fit and quality. Fabric was stretchy enough to fit comfortable but not loosely. Very good product for the money

Perfect, but size is inconsistent and shrinks
I'm giving this four stars because you should consider it but be aware of some facts first. It turned out perfect for my dog, allowing her to heal a large incision without having to wear a cone but generally the quality of this product is just weird. In brief, it could be absolutely perfect for your dog but if you can, it would be smart to order more than one in different sizes. If you know your dog is going to be having a surgery maybe buy it ahead of time to test it out. My female dog who had a splenectomy and would have had to wear a cone for over a week without this. Her incision runs in a straight line on her underside, from about her sternum to her pelvis. The onesie covers all of her body other than her legs and there is no way she'd be able to take it off herself. She seems perfectly comfortable though and doesn't try to. It's very easy to get on if she's standing and pretty easy if she's laying down and can't get up. With some onesies you might have trouble with peeing and pooping but this is perfect because you can easily undo the velcro, pull the back end out through her legs and tail, then fold it forward on her back and fasten it again. It takes 5 seconds and frees up her rear end so there's no mess. You could also easily put it over a diaper. The problems are that the size is all over the place. I have one that is very snug, one that's quite loose and one in the middle. Another is a good fit on the top half of her body but the lower part that covers her butt is very loose. If I were trying to cover her butt or hips and she was trying to get at it to lick, that particular one would be useless because she could get her snout in the openings. But the other 3 I bought would totally work for that. There is kind of a loop thing on the top of her back where supposedly you should be able to have the velcro ends underneath but it is impossible because the opening is nowhere near wide enough to fit the strap in. Like by an entire inch. It's not necessary though because the velcro is very strong. I don't think it would add anything for me to be able to hide the ends under that. Every one of these I've purchased has a different size opening too, which is extra weird. I get the feeling that whoever is making these is just cutting the fabric freehand without a pattern because they are so insanely irregular. One more thing about the size is that I went with an XL because it's what I could get delivered overnight and figured I'd try just in case so she didn't have to wear a cone, but I never would have thought she'd be an XL but a L would not at all be big enough. Still, I wouldn't say specifically to size up though because the size is so unpredictable from one to the next. Other problems are that it shrinks a bit when you wash it which is a problem if you got one that is already snug. None of mine shrank so badly we couldn't use it though. Dry on low heat because the velcro gets stiff and curls if you dry it on high heat. The fabric is thin so don't think this is going to keep a skinny dog warm but I was happy to have something covering my girl's shaved belly because it is winter right now. If you need a onesie or want to try it out to avoid having to use a cone, I do recommend trying it if you want a solution to avoid the cone. But, if you can order multiple sizes and return what doesn't work for you I would recommend that. If you can order more than one even of the same size it might work out because the irregularity could make one fit well but not another of the same size. Also, if you can order other brands to compare it would be a good idea. Check out what the return policy is first. I would never normally recommend something of this poor quality, but for me it was really worth it because my dog's incision is big and otherwise easy for her to scratch and lick and with how hard it is for her to walk right now a cone would be terrible and she'd be falling down all the time if she tried. She has been through a lot lately so I'm glad we had these.

Make sure you measure your dog using chart before you buy
This doggy onesie provided a solution to my dog’s sliding diapers. My aging dog is starting to have urinary incontinence. I bought diapers, but they kept sliding down. I checked Amazon to see if there was such a thing for dogs and saw these! My bischon mix is 21 pounds so I used the sizing chart and bought a large. It fit perfectly and is working wonders during a stressful time! Diapers stay in place, my dog seems comfortable, light stretchy material, adorable print, wash and dried well, and no tightness around neck or legs! She has been sick and so her comfort is imperative! She looks so cute and comfy wearing it! I’m considering buying more!!

Game. Changer.
When the time came for my little fur baby to get spayed... I knew that the "Cone of Shame" would be part of the recovery process. But then I saw those inflatable donuts... so I bought one in advance. And the donut was WAY better than the cone! The donut made it so she couldn't lick or bite at her incision but gave her more peripheral visibility. Unfortunately my puppy could still use her back paws to scratch her itchy belly and she was getting red scratch marks around the incision. So I quickly looked into these surgery recovery suits and ordered one for next day delivery. GAME. CHANGER. My 19lb Whoodle fought me a bit putting it on initially as she isn't used to wearing clothes. She also wanted to chew on the flaps before I could secure them. But it's been a couple days and she now lets me undo the bottom portion for going potty and put it back on when she comes back inside. She leaves her belly alone and doesn't even scratch at it over the suit. No more cone. No more donut. Just a relaxed happy pup and happy mama. Answers to some potential questions... Q1. Does the fabric stick to the wound? A: No. Not in my experience. And the incision was still a little weepy looking when I first put it on her. Q2. Is it hard to undo and redo the flaps? A: It takes a bit of practice to do it quickly but once you get the hang of it, it's easy. Even with my puppy moving around or trying to sit while I'm securing it.. I can still do it pretty quickly. If you've ever changed a diaper while the kid is moving around, grabbing their feet, or trying to roll away... it's a bit like that. Q3. Was the fit accurate? A: I took my dogs measurements and there wasn't one size that fit her perfectly. My puppy's back is long in comparison to her neck and chest size. I usually find that I have to go with the neck and chest size... but for this I went with somewhere in-between and crossed my fingers it would fit. I ordered my puppy a Medium and her measurements are Back 18", Chest 17.5, Weight 19 lbs. It ended up fitting her around perfectly but does pull on the neck a bit as it's a smidge shorter than perfect. Still TOTALLY fine for my needs as she will only have to wear for up to 2 weeks. Q4: Quality? A: The material isn't too thick on the back and body part as it doesn't need to be but is at least double or triple thick where it covers and protects the wound. The fabric is soft, stretchy and breathable and the velcro is much lighter/finer that others, making it quieter when undoing the flaps... which is great since my dog HATES the sound of velcro. We've had no sound/sensory issues with the velcro on this at all. While my puppy remains on a light sedative to keep her from being as active while she recovers... she still moves around quite a bit, scratches herself as normal, and does her typical grooming routines with this suit on. If I'd known this was going to work so well in advance, I would have purchased 2 so that I could wash one and have the second for her to wear. Overall I found this product to surpass my expectations for it's protection, value, and functionality. I have peace of mind I don't need to keep my eye on her every minute so she doesn't get at her belly and would highly recommend these!

Well designed and constructed and perfect solution to protecting after surgery.
Absolutely Perfect for after surgery or even just to use to help keep your dog warm at night. We purchased this for our 20 pound male Miniature Schnauzer after he had a large cyst removed that required two layers of stitches (inside and out) Using a cone or other after surgery collar would not work as he could reach the stitched area with his hind foot to scratch. It’s best to not use gauze pads, etc as the stitched area needs air and not hold moisture in order to heal. We purchased the large so that there would be plenty room for material to not be up against his wound. This product is 100% cotton, so it will shrink a bit in the dryer. I was impressed by the quality of the construction of this product. It has nice, sift ribbing around the neck and legs, the part that wraps over the tail has a hole for the tail, and an extra nice material where it wraps under his privates so as not to chafe. It’s easy to undo this section and roll it up and secure it onto the top of the back for trips for him to do his business. the wound seeped a bit, as it was supposed to during healing. The suit was easy to was and dry and did not stain. We poured a little laundry detergent right in the seepage that was a but bloody and it washed right out. Our little guy did scratch using his back foot, but couldn’t make contact as the material that wraps und comes up each side to be secured across the top of the back with velcro. This added an extraordinary layer of protection. This ingeniously designed “suit” was so much more effective than using a human t-shirt .. which would not have worked well for protecting the stitched area.

Works great but runs small
This suit is a life saver! We have not had to use the cone since putting the suit on. It is soft and gentle on the incision site. Much more comfortable for my dog. Only down side is that the size does run small. I got a large and it is almost too small for my 28lb border collie. Overall great quality, would definitely recommend it.

Get it
Was very helpful in keeping our dog away from her surgical wound. When taking her out for potty breaks it was easy enough to put around her and attach. The velcro quality could have been a little sturdier but it served it's purpose for wearing a couple of weeks. It looked adorable on our dog and it was stretchy and looked comfortable. It fit well too. I would recommend getting at least two because when you need to wash one you have another for coverage.
