This is a great Lego type Building kit!
We love this - My 6 and a half year old son is obsessed with Titanic. He does age 8-14 Legos easily but I was still worried after reading reviews that this would be difficult for him so here's my take: When you pay exorbitant prices for Legos you are paying for research, design, and impeccable instructions, all of which take a step down with this Oxford set, but it is still a great set. The pegs are not as high as Lego so it doesn't hold together quite as tightly, the instructions are fine, although Lego's are better - and the design is very accurate but lacks some of the detail you find in Legos. My son put it together completely unassisted in one day, on and off while also doing other things. Then, he conveniently crashed it into an iceburg and shattered both the bow and the stern. Rebuilding, even Legos, is never as fun for him - and this was difficult because we had to build the foundation of just the front from the beginning of the instructions, and he did need help with rebuilding, and we even had to do a little "master building" (see Lego movie) to get it back together. But it looks great and he promises he won't crash it (for a while) :) These blocks are the same sizes as Legos and are compatible to mix and match with them, they are just not quite as nice. We also bought several of the age appropriate books and videos we found on Amazon and they were amazing. We've been teaching our son on his level not only how cool of a ship the Titanic was, but what a fascinating and tragic story accompanies it. Turns out I've talked to several moms who all say their sons are, or were, completely fascinated with Titanic. Quite a piece of history to be able to teach my son, and this build was a fabulous part of it. Great product.. If you've been searching for Lego Titanic, I highly recommend it.

Great Building Set!
I purchased this for my 7 year old son for Christmas who loves all things Titanic and LEGOS. I originally searched for a LEGO brand Titanic set, but could not find one. I stumbled on this set. Initially, I was a bit hesitant buying this as I have purchased other brick sets in the past that weren't LEGOs, and they were duds. Not the case here! This set is just as good as LEGOS, very sturdy, and packaged beautifully. Instructions were very clear, and my son had a blast building this. He tore right into this after Christmas breakfast, and had it completed before he went to bed. He needed very little help and was able to do most of this on his own. Very impressed, would highly recommend!

Amazing on going project...
Finally started this project the other day...it’s totally amazing but very precise. MUST a follow it in order and count the spaces. Took over 4 hours just to complete the base of the ship. After getting to the yellow level just stop. The beige level is stiff and not connecting easily. Warm them up in your hands to make them more flexible and better connectivity. If they buckle as u apply and need to take it off , the rest of the base u just finished will come apart. Got it for my grandson ,he’s 7 and is obsessed with all Titanic stuff... he attempted by himself but got frustrated when it wasn’t looking right...so Gma steps in and has him help me build it to the yellow level. He tried again with the beige level and did good. The only problem was the beige pieces were bent and they weren’t attaching. Promised to help him with the rest of the build... I will update on that part. Update...finished the Titantic. It is AWESOME. it is such a consuming project with an AMAZING result. recommend highly for all those who LOVE Legos.

Good purchase. Nice looking Titanic. My son loves it.
This is a nice, big Titanic set. Purchased for my 8 year old who loves Legos. He needed some assistance with this one though. If you are used to Legos, this will take a little adjustment. Legos put together very straight forward directions and put the pieces in individual bags labeled for each step. If you are expecting that, you will be annoyed. There are 2 big bags labeled 1 and 2. The project is broken up into 2 parts, basically the hull and then the deck and accessories. You will need to open all of the bags labeled 1 to start the hull because the pieces you need right in the beginning are in a bunch of different bags. Once you can get past that and understand that this is not set up step for step like Legos then there shouldn’t be any issues. Same with step 2...open all the bags before you start building. The directions are sometimes a little difficult to follow and you may have to count circles in the picture to figure out where some pieces are supposed to go. Once again, if you compare it to Legos you will be annoyed. My son and I actually liked the change up from the easy steps of Legos and had to actually look and think as we built this. It was a welcomed change once I stopped comparing this to the ease of the Legos instructions. The model is big and fairly detailed. My son loves it and it was a good purchase.

Surprisingly durable
7 year old is obsessed with the Titanic and Legos... felt like we were rolling the dice on this one from an unknown brand. While the instructions were fairly well detailed there were a few times he missed steps because they try to do too much in a single step at times. The skill level for building was probably a bit over his head, but once it was put together he absolutely loved it. The best part is he's been carrying it around the house everywhere he goes and the unit has stayed surprisingly well intact. Good experience building and very happy with the quality of the set. The look is fantastic and parent/grandparents have been very impressed with the level of detail and quality of the piece.

Thank You Oxford! Hope to see more offerings like this...
Outstanding! I've seen several variations of this kit from other manufacturers. IMO, this is by far the best. My grandson thoroughly enjoyed the frustration free build. He also enjoys building lots of projects with Lego brand blocks. While there are many outstanding Lego kits available, they are extremely pricey. I have been building model kits now for over 40 years, and at my skill level one can invest quite a bit in the finished product. Lego's prices can easily exceed even my investments. I don't think a a pre-teen should have to shell out that kind of money, (I used to use my grass cutting money to purchase my own models way back when). With this kit you get the same great quality, and I was hugely surprised by the attention to detail. Don't misunderstand me... Lego's kits are extraordinary. Hopefully competition from companies like Oxford will help drive down prices.

Great model but a difficult build
Fantastic representation, bricks fit together well, no missing pieces, and a more then happy little 5 year old boy. What needs to be addressed are the instructions. They were extremely difficult for even an adult to follow. Nothing like Lego and not even as good as the dreaded Mega Blocks kits. My son spends hours upon hours building complex Lego sets and he could not do this set. I as an adult even had a difficult time and I have spent many hours assisting all of my children in building sets like these. I would still buy this again because my son is a fanatic and the pieces fit so well together. But you should be warned of the poor instructions ahead of time.

A good option for a building-block Titanic set!
My son (who is 9) is absolutely obsessed with Titanic. He loves the movie, he’s written a comic about the sinking, and watched countless documentaries about the ship. I bought this as his Christmas present and he loves it! It took him about 3 hours to assemble it and he never had to ask for help. I think this is a great value for price and quality. Shipping was also very fast!
