Hi, would I be able to display it outside under the front porch, or would the paint get weathered quite quickly if it gets wet?

I would think this is not suitable for an outside porch, I’m sure it would not weather well plus the hair and beard would get damp.

No you can't crack nuts with it it is an ornament

Come now, the title tells you- Nutcracker Soldier. There is a lever at the back which when raised opens the mouth to place the nut inside, close lever crush nut - job done. I have not tried to use it as a nutcracker - it was bought only as an ornament
