Makita Quality at a Great Value
As a long-time fan of Makita cordless tools, I’ve always been impressed with the durability and performance of their batteries and chargers. While the initial cost is higher than generic alternatives, Makita products prove their value over time with extended lifespans and reliable recharge cycles. The included carry case is a great addition - crafted from rugged ballistic fabric that seems more than capable of withstanding daily jobsite use. If you want dependable, long-lasting batteries and a well-designed charger, this set is worth every penny. Highly recommend!

Quality tools and freed from the cord!
For work that is not too heavy-duty, battery power is the way to go. It frees you from extension cords and all the time that they take to hoop up, unwind, and rewind. Makita is a quality brand and their tools are first-rate. I have no issues with anything Makita so far, and since there are so many tools that are very attractively priced "without batteries" it is nice to have a few batteries so one is always charged and ready to go. I have a spotlignt (after-market, not Makita) that uses the Makita battery and working underneath a table on model-train wiring it has been invaluable. The Makita battery has provided many hours of life without requiring recharging, so the two batteries are more than enough for my use now. This was a very attractive kit at an attractive price; I'm very satisfied with the purchase.

Reliable Batteries, but Upgrade the Charger for Faster Performance
I'm just reviewing the batteries and charger here, as this came with a reciprocating saw and I reviewed that item separately. The Makita batteries are fantastic—super reliable and very sturdy. They’ve held up well over time and are a solid choice for any Makita tool user. As for the charger, it’s decent and will get the job done, but I strongly recommend upgrading to the Makita fast charger that can handle two batteries at once. The fast charger is significantly quicker and has a built-in fan to keep the batteries cool while charging, which is a nice touch. This standard charger works fine, but it’s a bit slow compared to the fast charger and can only charge one battery at a time. If you're using a lot of Makita tools, the dual fast charger is a worthy investment.

Great value
I had doubts about these because of reviews claiming the starter kit is a knockoff and because the batteries arrived apparently completely dead. However they are very clearly OEM Makita and I have a feeling there is logic onboard that prevents use prior to an initial charge that explains apparent zero voltage when received. They charged up in about half a hour to 20.16 volts. The charger is quite capable and very fast. It has advanced heat, fault, etc capability and can be used on up to 14v NIMH and 18v Li-ion. Instructions are a little awkwardly translated but get the job done. You can apparently configure it to play 1 of 5 melodies for specific conditions but I haven’t played with that feature. Made in Malaysia and can’t remember where else but isn’t China. With these and a $17 adapter my ancient originally ni-cad powered set of Makita tools have a whole new life.

Good deal for the price.
These are regular Makita batteries so I expect that they will last a long time. I’ve already used them in my 36 volt Makita chain saw with great results. I am a little tiny bit disappointed that the charger is not the 'singing' model of charger. I like everything else about this combination, otherwise. Although I like the singing charger better because it alerts me as to when the charge has been completed. This is a good deal for anyone wanting an extra charger and more batteries.
