Delicious Breton Comfort Food That Is Easy To Make At Home
I was lucky to eat at the Breizh Café when in Paris, recently. They make crepes on a higher level & with the best ingredients at this cozy little café. A Breton crepe or galette is a delicious comfort food that can be made quickly with just a few ingredients. The crepe is made with all-purpose flour & the galette is made with buckwheat flour. This is a lovely cookbook. It starts with a description of the Breton style of crepe/galette & ingredients from Brittany that go so well with them. All the recipes in the book use either the galette or crepe recipe. None of the recipes are complicated but you will need to make substitutions for some of the ingredients that are easily found in Brittany but not here in the US. For example Saint-Malo potatoes are probably not in your local store but good new, red potatoes are easy to find. The book is divided into appetizers, buckwheat crepes & dessert crepes. Each recipe has a beautiful color photo. The recipe is easy to read with the ingredients on the left & the numbered steps on the right.I am lucky to have an excellent co-op store that sells old fashioned, stone-ground buckwheat flour that is sourced locally; it is amazing flour. But even regular supermarket buckwheat flour will be delicious (Bob's Red Mill Organic Buckwheat Flour is very good). I made the galette recipe first & the egg, cheese & boiled ham that is shown on the cover of the book. It was not my first time making galette/crepe so it was easy & delicious. This is such a satisfying meal - it's no wonder the Breizh Café is booked every night & people wait in line. This was like having a little bit of Paris/Brittany in my own kitchen.I also made the Banana Crepe with Rum Caramel Sauce - So good & easy.If you have extra, you can freeze them. Just separate each one with a piece of parchment paper & put in a Ziploc freezer bag. Reheat in a nonstick skillet for a minute or so. They won't be as good as freshly made, but make a wonderful, quick meal for breakfast/lunch or dinner. It's pretty fabulous to have crepes in the freezer- talk about good fast food!

A well-received gift
My mother (the person that this was a gift for) is obsessed with all things France. As such, she is well studied in French-everything, and can be particular about recipes involving French technique etc. This book proved to be well suited to the sometimes overly thorough scrutiny of my mother. As such, I would definitely recommend it.

It's more like a pretty picture book than a guide for crepes ...
A bit too fancy and too fashion forward. It's more like a pretty picture book than a guide for crepes that my family would actually eat. But, I enjoyed looking at the pictures.

Viva la Crepes!
This book is for someone who really loves to cook something less than ordinary. The photos are gorgeous and the recipes are actually fairly easy for the novice wanna-be-chef. Makes for a beautiful gift to accompany a crepe maker.

Several good recipes. Some ingredients not even readily available locally
Overly complicated--even down to the ingredients. Several good recipes. Some ingredients not even readily available locally.

I was so excited to get this book but...
I opened the box and the front cover of the book was completely covered with something very greasy. It was supposed to be a new book!!!!?

An own piece of The Breizh Cafe history
The book is good. I can't write it more because I haven't tried any of the recipes yet but the thing which I'm afraid the most is that even I won't be able to prepare most of them because the ingredients which are necessary are not available in place where I live. Many of the recipes contain products and ingredients which are typical for Brittany. Despite this I will try to prepare some of them because I just love crepes too much. Another thing which is really important for me is that the author has created this book with all his passion and we can see it in every description of the regional product or method. Maybe I have never visited The Breizh Cafe but I can tell that now I have a little piece of that place on my bookshelf.
