Right time, right book.
I purchased this book last month along with 3 other books with related topics in April of 2021. And while I won’t get too much into why I purchased this book, (mainly due to wanting to focus on the book and not myself), I will say that I barely glanced through it when I first got it. It is currently 3:23 AM, May 10, 2021, and I’ve decided to read 1 of 3 that I currently have. And the writer at the time mentioned she was 23 when she started to practice. I am 23 as well. Only 7 pages in, and this book gives me this ascension feeling. I can tell the writer, Angelie Belard has great energy. I immediately had to stop and post this specific page in order to show anyone who is interested in this book what they may be informed of. Angelie tells you the book is fundamental, and should you expect an academic book, then you should continue with your search because this is not that book. Basically, she says this book is her knowledge/and knowledge of practice when it comes to Hoodoo. I do believe that on this day, at this time, I was meant to read this book...Should I feel compelled to update this review, I will, and will do so thoroughly.

A Must Have for Hoodoo
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, in fact it was too short of a book. I was originally looking for a book to touch on candle magick and eventually came across this one, let's just say I got more than what I bargained for. My only complaint is that it's too short of a book and I wanted to read more of the authors experience.

Gentle, Casual, Like Mama
This book is written in a casual, optimistic, gentle, and inviting way with just the right amount of caution. The author has a way of feeling like that Hoodoo grandmother you never had.I've always had a weird relationship with the idea of Magic." On one hand, I'm an atheist, so I'm like "there's no harm in trying something mystical." It will either work or it won't sort of deal, but I'm always optimistic that it will. For being a non-believer I'm very open minded and WANT to be shown something to make me a believer. But on the other hand, there is that slight fear that maybe my atheist views are wrong, that there really are spirits and gods and magic out there and I'd be dabbling in something I shouldn't be.There are a few spells in here that give me that "I shouldn't mess with this" vibe, but there are also some simple spells that don't require chants or ingredients that give me that uneasy feeling. Something to get my feet wet and hopefully get something out of. Things that feel safe and harmless.Seems like the best of both worlds. Looking forward to giving some of it a try!

Reassuring, Inspiring, Enchanting
This book just took my hand and led me gently, calmly, confidently, into a conversation about magic and power from a Hoodoo perspective. It is absolutely as the title promises, "for beginners" in the very best way. The author doesn't talk down to you, she talks with you as though you're just a couple of friends sitting around the kitchen table. She is clear, she is wise, she is funny. She lays out the information logically and accessibly. At the end of the book I missed her. I missed her company. And I felt completely ready to begin. More than that, I felt excited about what I understood, about the fact that I understood it, and thoroughly seduced (in the most wholesome way) into beginning the journey of building my own practice. I would recommend this book, without reservation, to folks who are starting out in Hoodoo (as I am, although I am not at all new to magical practice). All books for beginners should strive for exactly this mix of clarity, conversationality, efficiency and practical advice.

A good introduction
In the tradition of indigenous initiation, this book offers guidance to help the reader access their own inner power. I really appreciate the repeated encouragement to follow one's own intuition, listen to one's own ancestors, and to allow for creativity and invention. This is the first book that I ever read about Hoodoo and I know I made the right choice, for it has opened my heart to receive wisdom and filled me with curiosity and wonder. I am also grateful for the cautionary notes and warnings. Although Hoodoo is powerful and healing, it is important to note that it is not a toy or a game, nor is it for the faint of heart. This Book is a good primer. Gratitude to you Mama Angelie this informative volume. I read it in two hours and I have a feeling I will be reading it over and over again....

Finally a book written by an African American elder in the Tradition
To get a better understanding of hoodoo people should learn from African Americans born and raised in the tradition, because Hoodoo was created by enslaved black Americans. In the book, the author mentioned some information about basic esoteric concepts of hoodoo that is often times overlooked. Such as, why use certain ingredients, and the importance of the location is important, because every location has a different energy that can add power or take power from your spiritual work. I recommend this book for people wanting to learn hoodoo from a person born and raised in the tradition, and they learned it from their family and not online. This makes a difference, because the author learned hoodoo from her grandmother, which are the origins and secrets of this tradition, the African American family.

Genuine and informative.
I have only started reading this book and I must say I am pleasantly surprised. Firstly, I must say I am not a big fan of independent published books, mainly due to the bland presentation these publishing houses often provide, but put that aside, the content of the book, is beautiful and honouring of the traditions of the authors Hoodoo heritage. The author provides a genuine and caring attitude towards her work, and though the book is quite thin and doesn’t have many pages, I definitely am glad I purchased the book. Her introduction to Hoodoo is written with such reverence and generosity and from the heart, that the readers develops a simple undertaking of the culture and practice of Hoodoo. No more will I just be a Witch, but a Hoodoo Witch at that. Her brief yet elegant introduction to Hoodoo dispels any fears or misgivings associated with Hoodoo and gently opens up the world of Hoodoo to the reader. My only gripe is that I wish the book had more pages. It is a very thin book and I would have liked for the book to have more spells and that is why I am only giving it four stars.

Nice Hoodoo Book
Book gives basic spells with simple ingredients with mojo bags, baths etc.Spells are simple to follow for beginners. But if you’re beginner you need more than this book to learn about different spells and ingredients used in depth.
