Does the light frequency/intensity change as cars are approaching - to alert the driver of the cyclist?

As the light is on the seat post facing on coming traffic it flashes. A driver would not necessarily know about the sensor, so it does not make a difference. Your bike computer will emit a beep as a vehicle gets closer, similar to parking sensors on a car. It also shows a car symbol on the bike computer and the beep with be faster if a vehicle is coming up behind fast. It's a fantastic bit of kit. If you are cycling with another person the beep is loud enough so they too are alerted to a vehicle or motor bike coming up behind.

Anyone use this with a garmin 520 plus if so how do you find it works ?

Although i haven't a 520 plus, I've used the varia with a 25 and a 530 with no issues - clear display and audible beeps (that you can turn off in settings) when a vehicle is approaching. I don't leave the house without mine as it gives me so much more awareness of traffic approaching from behind, usually a few moments before you hear anything.

What’s the difference to the more expensive £299 one?

I believe £299 includes the Garmin bike computer too as a package. If you have a bike computer already or use your mobile phone the light sensor can be linked to various ones. Mine was linked to a wahoo bike computer I already had so didn't need to spend the extra.

Is this a rtl 510, which is a different product to the 515? that is what is printed on the back of the light, on the product picture. thanks.

The RTL515 has a light and radar, the RTR315 is just the Radar and the newer RCT715 is the camera, radar and light. The RTL510 is the previous model of the RTL515. I do not know when they changed the designation.
