Best version of remote
Best Xbox one remote out there. I Bought this September 2024 and the only reason I'm replacing is because I've lost the darn thing. The buttons aren't hard for me to push, the batteries last a long while before having to change them out. It goes with standard or recharge batteries. When trying to replace my lost one, I ordered the solar chargeable new version it never worked right out of the box. I charged it twice and still never worked. Then I went back to the reviews and changed the settings to newest reviews, a LOT of people had the dead remotes sent to them. I returned the newer model next day. I will just stay with the proven working model. It works my tv volume and all menu functions. Best Xbox series remote out to date.

Better Than Using A Controller
I usually prefer using my cable box for streaming my shows, but during the summer time that’s a huge disadvantage because in southeastern Colorado we can get extremely severe storms considering we’re part of Tornado Alley and we can get nonstop weather alerts every few minutes and every time that happens it interrupts the stream and disconnects it and it takes 3 minutes to log back in, browse to the show and resume it. So during the summer I prefer using my Xbox but the controller is a huge battery eater and I prefer leaving it off but then that makes it problematic when I want to pause or rewind my show. This remote was a life saver. I was concerned about the volume buttons considering my TV is one of the earlier models of the HDTVs but surprisingly I was able to get it synchronized. The only downside is that when I want to switch from my Xbox to cable, my TV automatically turns off when my Xbox turns off too. Oh well, small price to pay for not having to use two different remotes. The backlights are also a huge advantage and they’re not too bright or too dim. But just be aware that this remote is for the media apps ONLY! It cannot be used for actual gaming (I tried). So if you’re looking for a reliable alternative to using the controller when streaming or using media-based Xbox apps, look no further!!

Must be line of site
Ah, the classic tale of "shoulda, woulda, coulda" and the perils of skipping those crucial reviews. I, too, have been a victim of this particular brand of tech-related disappointment. It seems I've joined the ranks of those who fell prey to the allure of this Xbox remote, only to discover its infrared limitations. Let's cut to the chase: this remote is a perfectly functional piece of equipment. It does what it says on the box, providing a comfortable and convenient way to navigate your Xbox. The buttons are responsive, the layout is intuitive, and it feels sturdy in the hand. If you're looking for a basic, reliable remote for your Xbox, this will certainly do the job. However, and this is a big "however," the reliance on infrared technology is a major drawback. In the age of Bluetooth and wireless connectivity, needing a clear line of sight to your Xbox feels downright archaic. It's like being transported back to the days of clunky VCR remotes and meticulously aimed signals. Imagine this: you're snuggled up on the couch, blanket draped just so, ready to binge-watch your favorite show. You reach for the remote, only to realize that your strategically placed throw pillow is now obstructing the infrared signal. Cue a frantic readjustment of pillows, blankets, and possibly your entire living room furniture arrangement. If this remote had been Bluetooth-enabled, it would have been an absolute game-changer. The freedom to control your Xbox from any angle, without worrying about line of sight, would have elevated this product from "good" to "exceptional." So, while I can't fault the remote's functionality, I can't help but feel a pang of regret for not heeding the warnings of those who came before me. If you're okay with the limitations of infrared, this remote is a solid choice. But if you crave the freedom of wireless control, you might want to look elsewhere. Lesson learned: always read the reviews, folks. Your throw pillows will thank you.

Would Pay More For More
For the price, this remote can’t be beat. It’s very good. I was wavering between three and four stars, and ultimately went with three due to the number of “little things” rather than one big thing wrong with it. First the good, the remote is responsive, it works right out of the box without configuration. It even controlled the volume on my receiver without selecting that option in the CEC settings. If you need a good media remote this is an excellent option. Especially for the price. However, I would be more than happy to pay more to address a few shortcomings. IR is nice and I wouldn’t want to lose it, but the remote needs Bluetooth as well. I’ve grown lazy and picking up the remote to point it at something feels so last decade. As others have noted the back button isn’t in the best spot. Not the worst either… It’s between the channel up/down and volume up/down buttons. Lower than most people navigating with the D-pad would typically place their thumb. It should be directly below and to the left of the D-pad like on most remotes. The backlight is a welcome feature, but it fades out too quickly and is difficult to reactivate. You really have to shake it a bit once your holding it. One or two more seconds would make all the difference in the world. The navigation buttons on the D-pad I sometimes miss when sliding from the center button. Not a huge deal but they could be designed to be more sensitive over a larger surface. On the other hand, the XBox button is quite nice to press. It’s better than the one on my Series X controller. The media remote it is clicky and the XBox responds immediately. The Series X controller is more squishy and takes longer to respond. For $20 this remote is great. I want a $50 version of this remote.
