This is what it says, "Pure Vanilla Powder"
This vanilla powder is not full of sugar, as many others are. The grind on the vanilla is finer, so there's not a "grit" issue. I use it for bread baking and it packs plenty of vanilla flavor without making the baked goods overly sweet. The price of vanilla (like many other things) has gone up sharply over the past few years. This stuff is pricey, but you're paying for vanilla, not vanilla and sugar.

The BEST
I am going to account the negative reviews with lack of flavor, lack of vanilla smell and chemical taste to a bad batch because I have been using this for years with great results. I have become the go to baker at my daughter's school and I can attribute it to this for my baked goods, primarily cinnamon rolls and vanilla powdered sugar. I put some in my daughter's oatmeal and didn't put it up, came back to see it was used, apparently she wanted to make her oatmeal taste better, needless to say she made he oatmeal taste like vanilla icecream lol. I love it and when it goes on sale I get a couple of containers to have me set till the next sale because it is a bit pricey. For those concerned of the maltodextrin, it is used do extend shelf life, extend the flavor better of the ground vanilla and prevent it from caking. I prefer it is used versus copius amount of sugar, I can make vanilla sugar at home and these other brands, that's all they have to offer. I will say if you are investing in it make sure you have some recipes in mind that you would want to us specifically for powder and not just a substitute for vanilla extract.

Where have you been?
I just recently discovered powdered vanilla....and I don't know what took so long for this love affair to begin! After doing some research on vanilla, I decided to try it since I love all things vanilla. This is a great alternative to the typical liquid vanilla extract you are used to using. The advantage to this is it is not alcohol based so the flavor does not dissipate when used in hot liquids or baking. I order spices from a fabulous website typically (myspicesage.com), but found this product even cheaper on Amazon. I have not used another powdered vanilla brand before, so I cannot compare it to anything other than liquid vanilla extract. While researching vanilla online, I did discover more than one author suggesting Nielsen-Massey as being one of the best brands at home bakers could use. I must caution you, after acquiring this product you will find yourself sneaking a spoonful into everything causing you to need to reorder more often!

Powdered vanilla
This is the very best vanilla powder I have ever used.

flavor does not justify cost
Did a blind taste test on my husband with cookies. One batch with this vanilla, one batch with vanilla powder bought in bulk from the Good Food Store here in Missoula which costs less than 1/10 the price (but I did use twice as much in the recipe). No noticeable difference in flavor. Same result in pumpkin pie, pancakes, banana bread and waffles. Maybe there is a recipe where it would make a difference, but I don't know what that would be.

Love this is any drink or yogurt.
Love, love, love this stuff. I carry a smal vial in my purse. Taste great in tea, coffee and yogurt. I like that it does not have sugar. My favorite drink is green tea w/ a dash of this. It's also good in iced tea & helps me cut out the sugar, because I order unsweetened tea and just add this. The only down side is my friends are now addicted to it too, but I'm the only one that carries it with me, so I run out a lot.

Smells really good, like old fashioned vanilla ice cream
Comes in a nice glass container. Works well, if you need to remove alcohol from your vanilla flavoring. It's a little pricey, for me, but I have been using vanilla extract in my breakfast mocha every morning and I was trying to get the alcohol out of my vanilla, for a while, to see if that would make any difference. It didn't really make any difference in my health and I went back to the pure vanilla extract, with alcohol in it, on the $1 isle at my local grocery store, to save money. Nielsen-Massey Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Powder is not quite as strong as the cheap stuff I'm used to using but it worked well in my breakfast mocha and other recipes. Overall, I liked it but not enough to pay so much more for it. I only have used the same old pure vanilla extract type stuff with alcohol, until I tried this, so as far as the quality for this type of vanilla goes, I don't really know how it compares to other vanilla that isn't an extract in alcohol. It may be worth paying more for, if you have a bigger budget than I do or if you don't use as much vanilla as I do.
