Reliably does what it needs to do.
I've had my IQ120 since 2014. I've used it on a WSM 22.5 for hundreds of smokes, and it has worked every time. If you want to get fancy and use features that change the set temperature when the meat thermometer reaches a threshold, the programming gets a little tricky. However, if you just want to set the pit temperature, it's ridiculously easy. With the right fire prep and the proper adapter for your smoker, it will reach and maintain temp all day long--literally, if you put enough fuel in the pit. I dump a pretty large pile of charcoal in the bottom, with a clear area near the air inlet. I start a chimney starter full of coals that I dump in that cleared area, then place my preferred wood chunks over the whole pile of coals. That small starter fire is enough to bring the pit up to the temp I set, and the fire will spread as needed to hold that temp as the day goes on. Depending on outside conditions (cold and rain will require more fuel, hot and dry less), I can hold 225 for 24 hours or more.

So far so good
When I cook ribs or even a pork butt, I generally can stay nearby to keep my Weber 721001 Smokey Mountain Cooker 18-1/2-Inch Charcoal Smoker, Black at the right temperature using my Maverick Et732 Wireless Grill Smoker Thermometer Burgundy + Meathead Magnet, but it can be a bit of effort. When I wanted to cook brisket, it seemed like too much effort, so I took the plunge. I opted for this solution vs a more modular and configurable one largely due to cost and simplicity. As a compromise, I opted for this somewhat programable model vs the simpler one.Setup works is simple enough, though it's a bit of a pain to route the toggle bolt into the vent. After that and closing the other two vents, I was ready to go. I plugged the unit in to power, and was greeted with alarms due to no probes being installed, but that was a quick fix. Alas my Weber lacks a handle to hang it from, but it's easy to find a way to hang it. In use, it's a little complicated, but setting a temperature is easy enough. It does a very good job, but it took some trial and error. First off, it cannot put out a fire, rather it can feed or deprive a fire of air, but if you start with too much heat, you'll need to use other means to lower the temp (the real lesson is to start smaller fires with this and use the minion method). The other issue is that there are a variety of settings, both on the dial, and in terms of vents (both on the Weber and on the unit) to adjust. All in all I like it, but it's a work in progress. I'm hoping to get to use it again soon. My only real concern is whether the unit is weather proof. There's no indication one way or another.

This works great on my WSM 18
This works great on my WSM 18.5 and WSM 22. It holds the temperature great for super long cooks. I have done 17 hours with no problem at 225. The temperature is verified against my Imation wireless thermometer. The key is to have the probes in the same spot. When I do this, the temps are within 3-5 degrees. This is a great item for running a smoker overnight. The IQ 120 is nice with its digital setup.

Not worth the risk!
I purchased the IQ120 to use on my Webber Smokey Mountain. When it works, it works well. Unfortunately the probes provided with the item are very unreliable. The second time I used the IQ120 the pit probe went bad and ruined a 17lb USDA Prime Brisket at a cost of $95. The probe went bad, did not read the temp correctly, the fan went on high for about 30 minutes, raising the temp to over 350 degrees turning my brisket into a very expensive tuff piece of meat.Great idea and works well when the probes work, but it is not worth the risk when smoking a huge piece of expensive meat. Total waist of time and money when you spend $95, 14 hours of your time, and your wife and kids ask why the meat is so tuff.

Easy to use, great performance
This device is absolutely amazing!I use it on a Weber Smokey Mountain 22" smoker. Before I had a lot of work to keep the temperature somehow stable. Especially since I sealed the smoker off with nomex seals, the air flow seemed to be insufficient since then. So it came that I received the pitmasterIQ and just started to test it with something that never really came out right for me - spare ribs! Everything installed, the ribs on the smoker, around half time thru, my wife got bitten by a wild animal. Thus we had to run to the hospital and I had to leave the smoker unattended. I thought: oh no, and this has to happen the first time I test this new thing! A while later, we returned home. The ribs were on the smoker for already almost 2hrs too long. The temperature was still where it should be. I took the ribs off and they fell apart! They were so juicy and tender, like never before! Just perfect! This thing really makes you smoking to a very relaxing task and you don't have to worry anymore about the temperature. I still monitor the temperature with the wireless Maverick ET-733, but so far it never had to alarm. I can definitely recommend to use the pitmasterIQ, it just makes everything so straight forward. Only one thing: When I made chicken, I wanted to boost the temperature at the end to get the skin more crispy. But therefore the fan wasn't strong enough to go much above 300F. Tho have a bit more of such a flexibility, the unit would need a fan with a much bigger range. But again, overall I'm extremely satisfied with this thing and I will never ever smoke without it!

Works well but be careful of heat near fittings.
Works pretty well and maintains a steady temperature as long as you can provide enough airflow for it. be careful of the hose fitting that goes on the cup mounted to your BBQ. It is made of plastic and if it s to hot in that area, it will melt (take it from experience). This should be a metal fitting.
