Bright, long lasting
I bought these light sticks to go in my bug out bag and vehicle. I bought ten red and ten white. I tried out one of the white ones last night. They're activated with the standard "snap and shake" like virtually all glow sticks. These take a little more muscle to break than a recreational glow stick. That's one thing I like, I feel confident carrying them in a bug out bag without fear of accidentally setting one off.The light produced by these allegedly white lights is actually extremely pale blue. The stick itself looks white, but the light it casts is obviously blue, similar to those blue halogen headlights or a poor quality LED flashlight. The light is fairly bright. In a dark room, I was able to easily read a typical paperback novel by its light. I recommend using the wrapper as a reflector to keep from exposing your eyes to the direct light. It makes the projected light appear brighter. These would make a sufficient emergency work light. If you had to read a map, cook a meal, or bandage a wound, these light sticks would be sufficient in a pinch. I would keep them around for power outages. The one I tested was still giving off a useful amount of light after 10 hours, so I'll accept as fact the 8 hour rating.Bottom line: These are the real deal. All preppers should have a box of these.

Bright Enough and Long Lasting
I used these at an advanced firearms training event held through dusk and into the dark of night. They were used to mark the firing lines at various distances, as well as provide just enough illumination to see inside of range bags, diagnose malfunctions etc. without ruining our night vision. I've used other glow sticks that didn't last as long, but these lasted 8+ hours and were still going strong when we wrapped up. The red versions were used for similar purposes and worked equally well.

They perform as expected
If in training or in combat your CO will designate what the color means to those that follow, clear, safe, soldiers on site…whatever…a buddy of mine said he dropped more green, red and other color sticks more than any rounds fired his entire tour.

Works well, not for 8hrs though
Initially these are very bright. I did a simple functionality test, I cracked two of these open and attached to my feet. In a dark night with little moonlight, I went on a short hike. At first crack they were bright enough to see anything I was stepping on and easily avoid things that would've otherwise tripped me up. I gave it about 4hrs and went back out - it was much more challenging. To the point where I could've done as well without them. While they still emitted some light, and in a pitch black room they were okay for basic tasks like light reading etc, trying to do complex tasks that you needed to see more then 6" away were near impossible. At 6hrs it had become too dim to even read by. 8hrs in and it barely glowed enough to light itself up.It could be the batch I bought or the color. I'm going to try some yellow ones and hope for better luck. For the price, stated duration, and reviews - I expected more out of these. However, these are probably good for emergency situation - I would put trust in that quality. And they probably work okay as road markers for at least 4 hours. I keep a few in my car survival kit and the rest in my home one.

Great item at this price!
What I received was exactly as pictured - Cyalume written on each wrapper. It's plenty bright for the purpose, i.e. emergency lighting. This is not a flare, but if you put it on a piece of string or paracord and swing it, you'll make a large visible circle of light, but you knew that.I also picked up a few "party" snap lights at local closeout store (they're gearing up for July 4th). Those come 2 per wrapper, are a tad smaller and were 3 double packs per $1. I grabbed some reds and blues. They work ok too, but perhaps not a substitute for Cyalume, which is larger, brighter and the hook is integrated. My guess is that the most useful colors are: blue (utility lighting, you could use green, but it makes everything look weird), white (bright), red (when you want to be able to still see in the dark, i.e. stargazing, camping, etc.)This is the best price I've found and everybody needs more than 1 - put some in your cars, backpacks, first aid kit, home emergency pack, etc.

Vital emergency preparedness
You should have one of these tucked on the top of the door frame trim molding in every room in your house, for when the power goes out, or you have a house fire. Cheap insurance and disaster preparedness. Plan ahead.

Good for Emergency Kit
- I bought these for my Storm Emergency Kit. I prefer the white for my kit.- the hook is nice so it can be hung on the wall, or hung on a line- These work nice when camping / backpacking because of the shelf life.- The light output is ok. Remember folks these are not intended to be super bright (like a flashlight). Search for another product if you need that type of light output. These are for a glow that is good enough to make you seen, bright enough to read a map, and long lasting enough to glow most of the night.

recommended
bright, easy to use, long shelf life, gave each of my friends kids and their friends one while playing in the dark behind the house... kids thought they were great and adults liked them because they knew where the kids were. great to keep in the car for changing a flat.

Probably bear glow stick on the market
Have pretty much always used these. They are fairly bright, last quite a long time and come in a ton of colours. Quantity for price is the only thing lacking. At only 10 glow sticks, it puts them a little on the pricey side. But you get what you pay for, and these are quality.

I will get more
You won’t believe that 2 days after I got these we had a power outage. I knew if the kids woke up they would freak out because their nightlight was out so I put one in their room and one in the bathroom and they totally saved the night from panic attacks!! I will always have a supply of these on hand. They were a little brighter than your average night light and in the bathroom it was perfectly bright enough for our needs. Lasted all night.
