Great book showcasing the beautiful rock art of Utah, took it on our extended trip there and interesting resource!

Nice book, great drawings and photos.Does not include rock art from the 4 corners/ San Juan area.From the preface:“In retrospect it is regrettable that basket maker rock art was not included in the study. Rock art of San Juan basket makers is an integral part of the Utah tradition…”

I have been very involved in the study of rock art and in rock art protection. Writing from that perspective, I can say that the author of this book is highly respected and this is a very good book on the subject.In ordering this book however, if you go through one of Amazon's independent distributors, be sure the book you receive has the latest revision. I ordered this book in this manner and was sent a copy of the book with an older copyright date than Amazon noted. In the past I had the earlier version and read it, and I was wanting the more current information. Unfortunately, I did not think to check the copyright date when I got the book from the Amazon distributor and I put the book aside for awhile and didn't notice the problem until a number of months after the purchase, so I let the matter drop. (This happened to me with two different books on rock art.) Be aware.

I'm an archaeologist and last summer when I was working in Utah with the BLM I actually lost this book and needed to replace it so I purchased it on here. (It was government property.) This is one of the more informative rock art books out there for people interested in the Fremont and Anasazi. It's destined to be a classic in the field if it isn't already.

This book is a very good resource for scholarly study of the ethnographic rock art in Utah. I was disappointed that there were no color photographs in the book itself. The book is replete with black and white photos of the Utah rock art accompanied with many diagrams and ethnographic explanations of the rock art. This book would be a good resource for an art history student or anyone interested inthe systematic study of indigenous people's rock art. If you're looking for beautiful color photographs of the Utah Rock art this ain't it.

Great book on rock art.. for those study art or primitive art this is very detailed..

This book is well researched and well photographed. I was fascinated with the information and as I am currently researching Nine Mile Canyon, it was very helpful.
