good pump for small size ponds and bird baths
Very compact and easy to install. Installed it myself in minutes, no tools necessary. I used it for a small 20 gallon fish pond in my front yard where I do not have an electrical outlet. I used it with a little spitter instead of the provided fountain head...it looks very cute and works like charm! Received many likes from my friends and visitors. The spitter sits about 2ft. above the actual pump level and it can still spit out the water to little over a 1ft. distance. The fountain heads also work fine, but don't expect it to shoot up too high. It is ideal for small ponds and bird baths.I was quite skeptical about how it would work on cloudy winter days. However, being in California, did not have a day until today where it would not run, used it for almost 3 months now with no issues. Although it shuts off when it is too thickly cloudy, it does work even with the slightest of sunlight. I placed the solar panel on top of my front pergola (which is little short of actual roof level) and the pump runs literally thru the entire day. The battery charges well and when turned on gets it to run for atleast 2 to 3 more hours. After which the mode switches back to 'solar' automatically. In that way we don't have to switch to solar manually again.Received the shipment very prompt and well packaged. Received some extra parts too, which is nice.

Yes…but no
Worked really well, even with the confusing timer issues, however, it totally failed after 13 months and after asking for a refund/replacement, I was told it was out of warranty (lesson learned) and there was no replacement battery to be bought. So if you going to get this, get the warranty b/c I couldn’t find any other company to purchase from and the panels w/o the battery back up turn off at the THOUGHT of a shadow going by.

Bright Sunshine Dependent!
Pump 100% dependent on unobstructed bright sunlight. You even walk in front of the solar panel, and the pump shuts off. Cloud passes - pump shuts off. Worked nicely with continuous bright sunshine, but who has that? And obviously doesn’t run at night. I had mosquito larvae in my pond in 2 days.

JUNK JUNK JUNK - MAYBE GOOD FOR A BIRDBATH IN FL FULL SUN - MAYBE
Wow! What a piece of crappolla! This thing really does only work in direct ultra bright Florida sunshine - any corner covered lightly by say a branches leaves will render the entire solar panel useless! Also, the fitting they say you can attach a 1/2" hose to is much smaller - I had to wrap the fitting many times with electrical tape to make it thick enough to use a 1/2" hose and hose clamp with - and it still slips off every now and then. And finally, it hardly moves water! The pump is about 12" underwater in a very shallow end of my pond and the hose goes to a waterfall (more like water drip) about 5" above the water line. In full sun it takes nearly15 minutes to fill a 1 gallon bucket. I have since bought a 5 Watt solar panel and buried a 12v battery in a plastic battery box and hooked up a switch which leads to a 360gph bilge pump which pumps the water through a external (also buried in the ground) filter and then back over a waterfall using 1" hose - this is the perfect setup for my 225 gal in ground fish pond - works like a charm and no need to run electric. Save your money and do it right - this 2.5 solar water pump is maybe good for a birdbath if placed in full sun!

Great pump. Great service.
Love these ASC 5w solar powered pumps. Have bought four of them for my large urn water gardens. They spark right up at first light and stay on all day until shadows hit the solar panel. Very quiet operation. And by far the easiest to maintain. Only have to clean filter every couple months as opposed to many of the other pumps I've tried that get clogged in a few days, even with screen and rock pre-filters.I did have one pump mysteriously die on me but the folks at ASC responded immediately and sent out a replacement pump that I got within 2 days! The reps could not have been more polite and concerned and eager to please, returning emails the same day.

Great little pump
This pump exceeded my expectations. I made a water feature out of a galvanized tub, old iron hand pump, and a sprinkling can. The pump itself was placed in the bottom of the tub with the tubing run up the side, down and then up through the iron pump to the spigot, total of 5-6 feet. The pump is strong enough to create a steady stream. I made a holder for the solar panel from PVC and zip ties with telescoping 1/2" and 1" PVC on a piece of rebar stuck in the ground. I am very happy with the solar pump. As long as it's in the sun it will run and charge simultaneously. I shut it off at night.Highly recommend it for a small water feature or pond.

Works as promised, but no battery back-up
Description is accurate and it was delivered as promised. The issue is with the other reviews that say it has a battery back-up, which it does not. If it's in direct sun, it works great. If it's cloudy or partly cloudy, the pump rate is greatly reduce. Full clouds and night, it does not work at all - no battery. I would enjoy it more if it had 1) an on/off switch, and 2) a battery backup. The pump is strong and moves a 5/8' stream 20 inches with enough power to launch water from the water feature.

8 months later: Not worth it.
Read this feature carefully before you buy this product: Memory function with rechargable batteries 6V-1.2AH; Automatically work for three hours with preset timer everyday. This means if you manually turn it on at 9 AM it will come on everyday at 9 AM AND it will only run for 3 hours!! If you want it to run longer you must go to the solar panel and turn it on and off agian. SO YOU HAVE TO Have the solar panel in reaching distance. It is a very bad feature. Why have 16ft of wire? It's not practical and there is no way around it..sucks
