Good for teaching kids
These are good map compasses for teaching orienteering to kids. They are worth paying a little extra compared to lesser brands.

Not really accurate but fun
We used these as gift bag items at a birthday party and the kids had a lot of fun, but they were not super easy to use, as the needle was very hard to keep level.

Have compass will travel
I purchased the compasses (9) for a gift for my grandchildren. Every year I hold what I call "Nana Camp". This year I thought it would be great to learn about compasses. They loved it and I learned too.

Okay but not reliable
These work okay if you’re patient and not worried about accuracy. We bought them to instruct our scouts in map and compass skills. However, the needles are sticky and slow to respond. Often we found the readings to be off by 15-20 degrees or more as compressed to known directions.

orienteering
Perfect. Needed These for a group of six year old boys studying orienteering and map reading.

Just over half were “functional” as a compass
The base and housing are nice, and seem to be well done. BUT, the needle🤥! Nearly half of the needles failed to point North! Some seemed unmagnetized, others were unable to turn freely, and a few were just off, reliably pointing elsewhere (South in one case).I wound up buying a second batch in order to find enough working compasses. The rest will go back.Given the high failure rate, I wouldn’t rely on one of these for anything other than a teaching aid, or maybe for skipping across the pond.However. They are cheap, so you can order double to have a reasonable chance at getting enough usable compasses for your purposes.

They do NOT work, NO liquid so NEEDLE CAN'T TURN, JUNK, DON'T BUY!
Ordered for hunters safety class. They are not useable even on a flat table top. Their is no liquid so needle can't move freely. I bought 9 and all same condition, in generic unmarked cardboard box. Typical get what you pay for scenario. Clearly designed to sell, not use, with hopes of buyer not returning. Worst product I ever paid money for. I can't say enough bad stuff or rate any lower. If you buy one after reading this then you deserve the product you receive.

cheap- but you get what you pay for
Out of 9 compasses, two actually worked. The rest either didn’t point north, had leaked the oil fluid from inside, or had no oil so the needle wouldn’t turn. I bought these to give to my American Heritage Troop to use for their orienteering badge, but the failure rate of the compasses ended up being nothing more than a teaching tool on how to identify a busted compass. High disappointed.
