Niebling! Need I say more!?
Love it, love it, love it. His genius is wonderful and I'm so thrilled to have so much of his work translated in this book. These are beautiful patterns and I will be knitting through this book for years. *contented sigh*

Errors make beautiful patterns difficult
Niebling's designs are undeniably stunning, however, some of the patterns have serious errors or have been cut up to fit the pages with little regard for ease of use. If you are an experienced lace knitter with good instincts for when something doesn't look right, you should pull through, as I have, but beginners will find themselves terribly frustrated. Be sure to check Ravelry.com - each pattern has a page there with other knitters who've tried it and left comments and corrections. I'm about two-thirds done with the doily from the cover, and I've had to rip back twice due to errors in the pattern. I'm updating my project page on Ravelry with corrections. My username there is buttermilkwaffle and the project page for the doily on the cover is http://www.ravelry.com/projects/buttermilkwaffle/page-68

Fantastic Resource
For anyone who appreciates fine lace knitting, this is a terrific book to have around. It is an excellent resource from a man who has been called the "father if modern lace knitting." Now granted there were/are not many male lace designers but Niebling earns the title. If you are looking for a challenge, pick this book up!

Arcane, but Essential
This isn't a book for beginners, but for people with a passion for the art of knitted lace, this is an essential part of a home library. Much has already been written on the varieties of knitted lace done in Great Britain, and its northern islands, and the eastern European traditions of Estonia and central Russia, but the unique tradition of knitted lace in Germany has has been confined to German language publications. This is one of the only books available in English that describes this style of knitted lace, specifically, the life's work of one extraordinary man. The instructions are a bit challenging for a beginner, but clearly presented. A serious student should have no trouble being able to reproduce these many patterns.

A Must for Admirers of Herbert Niebling
Eva Mariea Leszner did a very nice job of translating some of the designs of Herbert Niebling from German to English. The designs are a nice collection of work with projects in several sizes and several levels of expertise. Her explanation of working the patterns is better than average. The one thing I wish she had done differently was to have used the same symbols he used in his German patterns. In any case, this is a fine book, and for those who collect Niebling patterns a nice addition to their collection.

Decorative and unique designs
Very unique designs that I can imagine being used in many items that I can make for the home and for gifts. I've not seen any designs quite like these anywhere else. I have not made any of the designs yet but the charts and instructions seem very clear and straight-forward.
