A great filament dryer!

This filament dryer is a game-changer for 3D printing. It keeps my filament dry, reduces print failures, and improves overall print quality. The temperature control is accurate, and the build feels solid. I highly recommend it to anyone who works with PLA, ABS, or PETG.

I bought the UNLU Official Filament Dryer S1 Plus about a month ago and it’s been a solid upgrade for my 3D printing setup. The heating works well for common filaments like PLA and PETG, and the built-in circulation fan helps keep the temperature even throughout the box. I’ve noticed fewer print issues from moisture since using it. It doesn’t get hot enough for some higher-temperature materials, but for everyday use it does exactly what it’s supposed to. Overall, a reliable and convenient filament dryer.

I received this and immediately put it into action. It works well, as expected.

I originally bought this to try and help salvage some old proto-pasta coils I had that had gotten brittle and hard to print with. For some of the standard PLA filaments it helped quite a bit, for the HTPLA filaments, however, this did nothing. I also had some older spools of Hatchbox filament that I hadn’t used in a couple of years. I had some prototyping prints I wanted to run through but didn’t want to crack open a new roll of filament so I stuck one inside here with some dessicant packs stuffed in the middle of the spool and left it running for a few hours and then while I printed with it and, to my surprise, the filament was much softer and pliable and printed as well as I expected fresh PLA to print. The primary reason for the 3 stars is that the unit will not stay on more than a few hours regardless of how many hours you set it to run. I turn it on in the morning, set it to stay on for 10 hours, start a 4 hour print… come back in 2-3 hours and the unit has turned off. I don’t know exactly how long it actually runs, but 2-3 hours seems to be when I’ve found it has shut off. Very disappointing, but I just turn it back on and come back a couple hours later to check it again. I went ahead and did the kickstarter for the S2 version they’re coming out with to get 360 degrees of heating surface instead of 180 degrees of surface. I hope they also solve the power off issue with the newer units. Some other reviews have suggested that the unit would need to be airtight in order to work. These people don’t understand thermodynamics… that heat rises and takes moisture with it. Ignore them. When this unit stays on it does exactly what it should do… it heats up the filament and drives out moisture. That said, it doesn’t get hot enough to fully dry filament, which is why I shove a bag or two of fresh dessicant into the center of the spool to help suck the remaining mousture out of the filament and surounding air. This seems to work reliably well. All that said, I wanted to like this enough to get a few more for all my printers, but I’m going to wait for the S2 version from their kickstarter before I consider purchasing more. This one seems buggy. If it’d just stay on like its supposed to, I’d give it 5 stars and already have several more. UPDATE: I returned the first unit I bought and got a replacement. The replacement has not had the same issues as the original where it would shut itself off after an hour or two, confirming my suspicion that the thermistor was bad in the first unit. I have since purchased 4 more of these (couldn’t wait for the S2’s) and none of then have had the early shut-off thermistor issue. They have their fair share of other design flaws, but I’ve designed solutions to those problems (a bowden tube adapter solved all the issues I was having) and, in fact, I’m launching a Kickstarter campaign to share my design with other S1 owners having the same issues.

This works great!! My house is super humid, like 50-60 humid and this keeps the filament dry. It also has a timer so you don’t accidentally leave it on for too long and damage your filament. It has a tiny hole at the top where you can run the filament through so you can warm while you print.

Ottimo essiccatore per filamenti! Acquistato in promozione qualche mese fa (prime days), utilizzato tantissimo e finora molto soddisfatto dell’acquisto! Consente di impostare temperatura e tempo di funzionamento, manca l’indicazione dell’umidità, ma non ne ho sentito la mancanza. Testato con bobine BambuLab e Sunlu e funziona egregiamente, senza inceppamenti. Silenzioso (si sente solo il ronzio - leggero - della ventola), di sicuro la stampante fa più rumore. Credo sia un buon acquisto se la stampante è posizionata in stanze o locali non proprio asciutti. Io la uso in un locale tecnico e ho dovuto mettere anche un deumidificatore. Prima di stampare accendo entrambi per una mezz’ora e la qualità delle stampe sembra sensibilmente migliorata!

Me ha funcionado bien y con buenos resultados. La calidad del producto no es la mejor, pero tampoco es una chafada, cumple bien, funciona bien y no desepciona. No es nada mala compra.

Very compact filament dryer. So far I have used it for ePLA and TPU spools while printing. Nice and lightweight so it sits on the top of the printer currently on a small custom printed plate (though it will be moved to a shelf soon). Recommended for those printers that do not have an AMS type changer system and want a good way to keep their filaments in good condition while they are printing.

Natürlich lässt sich auch die Temperatur je nach Filamentart einstellen, was die Nutzung sehr flexibel und einsteigerfreundlich macht. Zusätzlich hat die Box eine kleine Öffnung, durch die das Filament direkt in den Drucker geführt werden kann, ähnlich wie bei einem integrierten Halter. I just preheat the filament with the timer, and a few hours later I can start the print remotely without worrying about over-drying. One of the best features is the ability to read the relative humidity (%RH) inside the dryer. This lets you compare the room humidity to the internal environment, which is super important when you want to make sure the filament is properly dried and ready for high-quality prints. You can also adjust the temperature depending on the type of filament you’re using, which makes it really flexible and beginner-friendly. It also has a small opening that lets the filament feed directly into the printer, working like a built-in holder. For this price, it’s absolutely worth it. I can’t recommend it enough.
