An in-depth look into the life of the King.
As is tradition with the Monsterverse, a prequel comic is released to coincide with each new entry. This time, for GvK, we got a two for one deal: “Godzilla: Dominion” and “Kingdom Kong”, the former I’ll cover here. Following in the footsteps of “Thunder in the Past” and “Godzilla In Hell”, this is a story told entirely from the kaiju’s perspective. Here, after his last battle with Ghidorah, he works to maintain order in the world while also searching for a new home.Mike Dougherty (KOTM) said that Godzilla is older and wiser than we give him credit for and that couldn’t be any more apparent in this tale. The narration combined with the visuals conveys a sense of who Godzilla is, an ancient beast burdened with purpose. Being King of the Monsters isn’t easy and he shows why he holds the title. When something is amiss, he assesses the situation and uses force when needed. This gives a new angle to the multiple fierce battles Big G partakes in featuring many titans old and new, each showing off their own abilities and demonstrating how he deals with them. He’s so dedicated to his work that as much as he just wants to find a new lair and rest, he won’t hesitate to address a problem he comes across. The comic expands on the lore such as Godzilla’s extra senses that detect things of significance, another look into the Hollow Earth, and even a little of his emotional side (which surprised me most). The titan-sized odyssey takes the viewer to many locations around the world from the Amazon to the depths of the Earth, providing plenty in aesthetics and showing off the scale of what’s at stake. Artist Drew Andrew Johnson, who did “Godzilla: Aftershock”, returns, pushing his talent further with wonderfully detailed imagery and wicked creature designs. It isn’t all flawless, though, as at times he reuses angles on Godzilla and there are a couple of panels where his snout is too short, but these are merely nitpicks.“Godzilla: Dominion” allows the reader to appreciate what the titular monster goes through and what it means to be the alpha. It adds to Serizawa’s line of him being the key to coexistence. The Monsterverse incarnation is one of my favorites and this comic made me love him even more. If you wish to see the life and times of Big G, then give this one a try.

Best Godzilla Comic Ever!
This was a fun read. I think it’s awesome that Godzilla is basically the main character in this comic. Aside from some wonky drawings, the art was great and the writing was really good.I recommend G-fans and MonsterVerse fans to read this.

Great book
Provides good reference to the previous Monsterverse movies, as well as good insight into the G-man's perspective. The book is a little too short, tho.

What Godzilla Point of View?!?!?!
Where can I start the art in this book is amazing. The Illustration by Drew Edward John is phenomenal I fell in love with it when he illustrated Godzilla Aftershock and the colors by Allen Passalaqua also did Godzilla Aftershock complemented the illustrations. Greg Keyes gives a story in motion with Godzilla point of view and his place which gives a perfect mix on what he does and his place in the environment. The story takes place between Godzilla KOTM and Godzilla vs Kong. The story offers monsters new and old and Godzilla place in this so expect Kaiju battles of course. Hopefully Legendary continues the movies if not more comics/books like this will do the lore and the monsters origins justice.

Godzilla beats Kong in the Prequel Department
Unlike Kingdom Kong, Godzilla Dominion is an interesting accompaniment to the main Monsterverse movies. Many Titans, old and new make appearances in this book. After KOTM, Godzilla is now the one who keeps the balance in the world. When Titans get out of hand, or when they fight other Titans, Godzilla steps in to remind everyone to get along (and who's King around here). It's an interesting look into how Godzilla lives from his point of view. He's also looking for a new home in this book, as his old one was destroyed in KOTM. This adds a bit of a personal journey to Big G's story. The art is great, all the Kaiju are drawn well and very expressive. The fight scenes are clear and exciting. My only real issue is the cover art.Overall, this is an excellent tie in and prequel story leading into Godzilla VS Kong and does a great job at showing you some history behind Godzilla and Kong's species and their war with each other, as well as what the other titans are up to.
