Is this a transparant coating that can cover/protect a water based painting on the wall? How many square meters can be covered with this?

Yes it's a clear/ transparent coat. It is not designed for water based paint (acrylic), use a topcoat on Venetian/ faux plaster as they absorb water when dry and more prone to scratching and scuffing. 1 quart will cover 200-300 sqf.

Can this be applied on joint compound and how many square feet would 32 ounces cover?

Yes but should put a quality primer 1st. Also to further gain yield tint your primer to a color that is close to your Vplaster (it literally cost nothing extra)

Can this be used with another brand’s plaster (e.g. Vella)?

When I put this I lost the shiny. You can use some natural wax I think looks better. But if you want to try it, yes it’s possible to be used over another brand

Is this applied with a roller or a putty knife?

I use professional Venetian plaster blades and trowels. A putty knife can be used in a pinch for small areas only. It would take too long to apply the plaster to a wall using just a putty knife.

Perfect match to old top coat

Worked well on the Venetian plaster I had used years ago which I purchased from Home Depot. I thankfully had some of the plaster left over and used this top coat over the newly applied plaster to patch a couple spots on the wall. This top coat matched perfectly to the old top coat.

Good value for the money

Very good value for the price. I painted a small guest bathroom and it turned out great. Lots of steps involved in making this look it's best. I highly recommend watching done YouTube videos prior to purchasing the venetian plaster paint do that you know what you're getting into before purchase

makes your polished venetian plaster matt

I got this to protect grasselo polished plaster. It completely ruined look and eliminated depth. Sand it out , reapply plaster and seal it with clear wax from minwax.
