Great fit!
I am using this shoulder guard to protect a wound on a yearling’s shoulder. I ordered a medium, fully expecting to take it in at the wither, but it was not required. This means they probably run smaller than the other brands I have, so keep that in mind. Being young, he does a lot more laying down and getting up than an older horse would, but this guard stays firmly In place. The fit is just about perfect. We rotate through 4 different guards as they get soiled, and this one is easily our favorite. One our other guards has the same style (plastic snap)surcingle buckle as the Derby Originals, and it has to be taped to keep it from releasing under strain. I am happy to report this one stays firmly connected, but I personally would prefer a metal one. After the first washing, I noticed a few stitches had came loose on the hem. Otherwise, I’m very happy with this purchase.

Size Runs Small
The overall quality of the product is very nice, but the sizes definitely run small. Bought this in a large (1100-1400lbs) for my 16.3 saddlebred who runs about 1250lbs thinking that the stretch could accommodate his high withers and sloping shoulders. Unfortunately I could not even get the guard buckled when let out all the way without it being as tight as a girth. I would suggest anyone to go up a size to be safe, particularly with a high withered or exceptionally muscled horse.

NO STARS DUE TO QUALITY
I literally went to put this on my horse and it ripped !! It fit fine but POOR QUALITY . Would not suggest you wasting your money .

Love this
It is very thin and stretchy and worked well to protect a skin wound and keep flys off on shoulder area which I could not bandage. Because it is stretchy my horse is an escape artist and was able to take it off. That was the only bad part. Thin was great so not hot for her here in florida
