High quality materials that really work!
This review will have 5 steps: Prep & Prime, Paint, Patina/Oxidize & Paint Touch Up.The Modern Masters Primer is an interior/exterior acrylic water-based primer and able to block the oxidizing agents that regular primers can't. The Modern Masters Copper Metal Effects Paint is also interior/exterior acrylic water-based paint. You can apply to wood, metal, plaster, canvas & masonary. Clean up for both products is soap and warm water. Modern Masters is a Rust-oleum product and does not come in an oil-based product. Apply both products in temperature 55-85 degrees.Prep & Prime: I have been a professional painter and these Modern Masters products are expensive, but high quality. I was refinishing some rusted iron flower pots. I prepped the surface by wire brushing and sanding, rinsed off with the hose and let dry (picture 4). This primer is thick and needs to be shook or stirred before applying. When applying you may need 2 thin coats vs 1 thick coat. If you are priming detailed scroll work like on these flower pots, be careful not to fill in the relief with the thick paint. So go back over any grooves in the surface with a dry brush to get out excess primer or you will lose the detail on your surface. (Picture 2). The primer has excellent coverage and the Modern Masters Paint adhears very well to it. You have to allow 12 hours for the primer to dry before applying the paint.Paint: This Modern Masters Copper Metal Effects paint is more of a suspension of metal copper particles that need to be shook before use and I recommend keeping a stir stick in the gallon of Oxidizing Copper paint and lightly stir each time or two you dip your brush in for more paint. (not as practical for roll-on or spray applications but you get the idea). (Picture 1) It will brush on thinner than the Modern Masters Primer and a second coat of paint is recommended. Note: You need to recoat paint in about 30 minutes.(Picture 4).Oxidizing: Using the Green Patina Aging Solution (Blue-green in color), apply "while paint is still wet". Not dripping wet, but tacky which may only be a few minutes in dry conditons. Apply with brush or sponge. I started with sponge, but quickly moved to brush. I poured the Patina Ageing solution into a small pale and brushed from their. It has the consistancy of water so pick up any runs with a dry brush or you will see green streaks down your surface. You will not see the oxidation for 20 minutes and in full for hours after appllication. The Patina oxidizing solution delutes as you use it so you can't carefully control the Patina/oxidizing effect like you can the paint. You may end up reapplying the Patina solution So I ended up painting and oxidizing one flower pot at a time. (Picture 3).Note: YOU CAN'T CONTROL THE PATINA SOLUTION - BUT YOU CAN CONTROL THE PAINT.Paint Touch Up: The tough customer (my wife), wanted a "turning copper look" with some copper color and some green patina oxidation. I purchased the MM Rust Patina to sponge in this effect only to find out that it only works with the MM Oxidizing Iron Paint not the Oxidizing Copper Paint that I was using. I figured out the only way to achive this look is to let the surface oxidize and dry for a day or two. Then, come back and lightly brush some of the Modern Masters Copper Paint back over some of the high spots on the relief of the flower pots. I have to admit, it looks amazing! She did not want the sealer placed on to keep an authenic rough look to the surface without any satin finish. The issue there is that it could continue to oxidize more green in the future. If so, I will only take me a few minutes to likely brush some more copper paint back on. It's been 5 months an so far it looks the same as the day I painted them.(Pictures 6 & 7).My only criticisim is that they need to make the products available in a quart size as the gallon is expensive and way more material that most people will need for a project and the bottle is too small. However, this excess primer can serve as a good general metal primer for other projects and the paint I will use for re-touch up as further oxidation occurs over time. You now know a lot more than I did when I started with this product. Have fun with it!

What a spectacular result!
If you don't believe me, look at the hideous "before" photos! I completely transformed a boring and truly ugly drop ceiling to something bragworthy. I did buy the whole kit, the primer, the reactive paint, and the patina. It was more than I wanted to spend, but when I saw the result, I thought it well worth the price. It is actually copper, and it does actually oxidize to a beautiful green. The size of the space was not really conducive to copper tiles, as they would have needed to be cut at strange sizes (most were 24" x 24", and it was 39" wide, and cutting them would have looked terrible), which would have screwed up the design on the tiles. Then, I thought I'd put reclaimed wood up there, and thankfully, the wood guy was too busy for my little job. I'd even considered having my drywall guy rip the drop part out, but there are ducts in the dropped sections. So it was an absolutely impossible space to work with. When I ran across this paint, I hesitantly gave it a try, I was skeptical when I put the primer on, as it was really dark. But... The first coat of copper was impressive on it's own. Adding the second coat and spraying the patina on with a spray bottle was almost magical. I am so happy with the way it turned out. Now to do the rest of the ceiling! I'm doing it in a neutral beige, and then I'm going to mix the copper with glaze to tone it down and sponge it on the rest of the ceiling to tie the two spaces together. Maybe Amazon will allow me to update the review when I'm done with more photos. After the rest of ceiling, I'm doing the top of my rolling kitchen island with it. I'm hooked! Now, the other reviewers were correct in that you need to do the patina while it is still wet. I tried it dry, and it didn't work. I tried ragging a section, but I didn't like the result, so painted over it and sprayed with a spray bottle set to mist immediately after painting. I caught the drips with a rag at the edges, and let it sit overnight. To say that I'm pleased would be an understatement.

Amazing!
I used this system to restore an antique Statue of Liberty. My client wanted something that was as close as possible to the original. This system was the closest I could get. It's amazing! It's wasn't easy to use because of the size of the piece, but once I got the hang of it came out great.I recommend it but you need to be patient.

Decent Product
We were trying to match the 90 year old copper That was replaced with aluminum trim on the front side of the dock. On the left side of the dock, shown in the second picture, is the original and the front is the copper paint. We experimented on a 2x4 before applying. One side is following the directions to the letter and the darker side of the 2x4 is spraying the aging solution immediately. In the end we opted to let it age naturally. It was too large of an area that faces south and also a very hot day.

Fabulous Look
So I did my outdoor dining set. Came out extraordinary. Then while sitting in the backyard, I looked up at the gutters and leaders and said to my painter friend. Gee how would that look painted on the gutters? Well we both said let’s try it. All I can say is WOW

I have always had a good experience with their paints
I have a custom rain gutter company. We use their pants on our projects often. I have always had a good experience with their paints. I use a paint sprayer to apply the paint to paint grip steel gutters, downspouts, and conductor heads. Customers love the look as well.
