Good fit...works for gym or beach

The external appearance is first class. The fabric gauge is heavier than I've seen in synthetics and makes the weight similar to wearing blue jean shorts. Outstandingly well made and very comfortable as I sit in them writing this review. These are the real athletic thing.Now, these are my first pair of 'fist-fighting' togs. The purpose design requires you to note several things. First, they are designed to stay firmly on the waist. We're talking heavy-duty Velcro securing the waist and fly secured by a secondary extra Velcro strap where a belt buckle might otherwise be. The good news, there is a zero chance of getting pantsed without ripping your butt off. The waist is about as fixed as pants can be made.Second, no pockets. Fine for cutting the grass and watching TV but not for keys and walletThird, and you will discover this later, opening the fly or dropping them requires peeling back the redundant and heavy-duty velcro security straps. It's OK around the house. In public, the process would sound like your skinning a live chicken in the bathroom stall and for a long time.As the shorts are designed for athletic purposes, the sizing is a genuine custom athletic fit. I'm 6'1" tall and 195#'s. My waist is a cinch on the upside of 36. From previous reviews, I went with 36 that's characterized as an XL. The shorts are designed for a precision fit. The 'XL' is snug on my 36 waist. A 'L' would be way too small, the velcro configuration would never let me get into them ... an XXL would have been better for my smidge over 36" waist in retrospect.
