Beautiful Leather
Don't you just love the smell of fresh leather. This stuff is great for tooling. The skin is just a pinch looser once wet than what I'm used to but it still works pretty good. It takes detail well and so far is holding it as the leather dries. The slightly looser skin only seems to affect one of my really thin tools that I use for faint edging and none of the others, so I can't really complain. Because of this I did find that dotting the initial layout was far easier than dragging it. Most people work that way anyway. One flaw showed up after soaking, but fortunately it is in an area that I should be cutting off anyway and there was really no way for them to know. It looked exactly like the rest of the hide until it had been in water for two days and it was only a halfway through loose spot (probably from some sort of minor skin mutation). These things are unavoidable when dealing with nature. It cuts nicely, molds and tools nicely, and did I mention that it smells nicely...I mean nice. It was shipped well, not too tightly/loosely rolled, adhered in a non damaging way, and also not excessively packaged. 10/10 will buy again.

Nice firm leather but 4-6 square feet means 4+/-.
The square footage just barely qualified at 4 square feet. That's was a bummer. It was my own unrealistic expectation of something more that will not give a fifth star. The good side of the equation was a nice smooth uniform thickness, a decent unblemished surface, moderate stiffness, and no central defects. Definitely will fulfill it's required task. Just would have prefered a little bit overage to make the math a more visible 4 and a decent fraction over square feet size.

Exactly right
I purchased this leather to replace my lap pad that was stolen from my truck. I know the thief had no idea what all the items in my bag were so I am just trying to collect and replace my flint knapping tools. This pad will work great.

Trash Do not buy stay with a reputable dealer company
Buyer beware. Not as advertised ! Claims to be 2.5 - 4 square feet and my order measured out to be 1.6 square feet. Also claims to be 8-9 oz it is closer to 10 - 12 oz which is to thick for what I ordered it to use for. Very poor quality, cuts in the flesh side of the leather. Marked ELW but I honestly think it is a China import. I have used ELW in the past from Tandy leather and weaver leather with good results

Not bad
Im a worker by trade. I'm not all knowledgeable but I know a bit and work in a very successful local shop. I've been doing it only 5 years. So take that into consideration. I'm really a new guy. I sometimes buy veg tan and bridle leathers through work to do personal projects and things for my family. My boss typically lets me rummage scrap or he will sell me some of his stock real cheap. Not the Veg tan and certainly not the English bridle. He buys Hermann Oak and Wickett and Craig. Stuff that can get pretty pricy. Too pricey to let employees just dig through it anyhow. I picked this veg tan up to make some different things for myself. It's not bad. The SQft was pretty exact. Which sometimes can be a problem because of wastage on a piece of leather. But this 5 SQ ft was pretty clean and consistent to the end. They cut the bad chunks out and what you end up with is slightly irregular pieces. I was worried I wouldn't have a piece large enough to get the 2-3ft section I need. The way it was shaped. But it worked. Shouldn't be problem for small things like sheaths and holsters. I ordered it a little thick since I can split it at work which is nice. If you don't have a splitter then be exact with what thickness you order. I think this piece was a tad heavy. But overall its nice. Softer than what I am used to. The stuff we buy at work is stiff as wood and breaks in beautifully. This is floppyish. Wont cause me any problems though. We will see how it ages. It's like they say, you get what you pay for. But thats not saying this stuff is "cheap". It will make what I need it for. Pretty clean too. No marks or holes or major discoloration. It looks nice. Takes dye really well too. I did't do any tooling or stamping. If you are an at home crafter making things for yourself or family or to sell at a craftshow, this will work. If you could afford the expensive stuff then you wouldn't be here am I right?
