Big Train - Seasons 1 & 2

Please note first that the listed product details are wrong. This is a region 2 DVD, and consequently WILL NOT PLAY ON AMERICAN DVD PLAYERS. As far as I am aware, Big Train has never been released over here. That said, if you have a multi-region player, this is one of the funniest sketch shows released in years. Similiar in format and approach to Monty Python, the Big Train team delight in juxtaposing the ridiculous with the everyday--the sketches of Ming the Merciless at home and, later, being visited in hospital by his friend being classic examples. As with Monty Python, however, the sketches are pretty hit and miss. While some border on genius, others will just leave you with a puzzled expression on your face. The quality also dips towards the end of the series, as if all the best ideas were exhausted early on. That said, there are plenty of gems here, and once you've watched both series, the inclusion of a scene select feature means you can also go back to just the ones you want.

If you like British sketch comedy like Monty Python, Armstrong & Miller, Mitchell & Webb, then I recommend Big Train. Really excellent troupe of actors including Simon Pegg, Catherine Tate, Mark Heap, Julia Davis, etc. Only 2 seasons, but absolutely worth it! Certain sketches are so ridiculously surreal (jockeys stampeding through Africa, "Something must have spooked them!") that I wonder the series didn't continue for longer. Of course, this came out right about the time that Pegg and Heap went off to do "Spaced," so that could certainly explain it!

After falling in love with Simon Pegg, I had to pick up everything he's ever been in.\Big Train is cute, funny and worth the time to watch.The first one I ordered actually arrived damaged but I was quickly refunded...so I ordered a new one!

In the vein of Monty Python, Kids in the Hall, and Little Britain. A surprising number of before they were famous Brit comedy actors. Loads of fun.

This is a rocking cool show that is so much better than some of the trash that we get in the US. If you love sarcasm and wit than this will make you laugh but if you like serious shows this might not suit your needs.

Pretty funny. It's no garth merenghi but it's funny.

Simon Peggが好きなので思わず購入しました。スケッチと言うんですかね？ギャグで短編の詰め合わせみたいなものです。なかなか面白かったので、見て損は無いと思いますよ。海外からの輸入品なのでパソコンのリージョンを変更したら見ることが可能です。もちろん、吹き替えも日本語字幕もありません。

This is a two disc set with three episodes per disc including various scetchws by Simon Pegg, Catherine Tate and more. Feom the genre viewpoint, it is probably concepted to follow Alfresco, Not the 9 o'clock news, Bits od Fry and Lorry, and similar. It is however hardly approaching the same level of humour and artistic performance wuslity, being often vulgar, mistimed, repetitive, or plain boring. Two stars at best...

Overall enjoyed watching it, but some of the sketches are just not that funny and part of the running gags are too repetitive and long. Some weak sketches last too long and conversely other good ones are axed too soon.A handful of good sketches can be found in the deleted scenes.I reserve the 5-star reviews for the excellent productions with which the cast and creators are involved in down the road.

I absolutely loved Big Train. It's hit and miss really, as every sketch show is, but in this one, the hits are much more common than the misses. Also, there are some which were huge hits for me, such as the Tom Henderson sketch and the fire0fighting jockeys (which can be found on youtube). I am usually put off from buying DVDs of sketch shows, as they do not usually have a lasting appeal, but this one really does.The show has a lot of fairly surreal sketches, which not everyone will appreciate really. However, even if you do not like these sketches, many of the sketches in series 2 are generally less surreal, so this could still appeal to you.But, to put it basically, if you like a lot of the other shows which have similar casting (particularly Mark Heap, Kevin Eldon and Simon Pegg), then you will almost definitely like this.Certainly worth getting.

Everybody should own one of these. It is so, so funny. Shame they only made 2 series. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
