So lucky
Wow. What a book this is. I bought this just after Easter and after reading piles of thrillers it was a refreshing read. It was one of theonly novels that made me laugh out loud more times than I can remember. There are plenty of Bridget Jones type moments in this book as well as being packed with blunt comedic prose. I flew through this in a few sittings. Dawn is one hell of a writer.I really enjoyed the story and how every character came together. Think C L Taylor’s ‘Strangers’ but in women’s fiction. Perfectly executed. Ruby’s story was the most interesting for me and how she handled life with not only her mother but her condition. I felt she had the biggest character arc, especially with her relationship with her own daughter, who herself had a character arc of her own with her behaviour. Beth’s story was at times a little underwhelming. I think there were several chapters where they were nothing but her contemplating about sex and her fantasies which didn’t add much and pushed a little to the brink of skipping a paragraph or two. There were only a few chapters like this half way through. Beth had the BEST Bridget Jones moment in front of her husbands mother and had me crying with laughter. It was brilliant. This was a funny, emotional read. It focussed on the self doubt and self deprecating that women often do and seams together a great story to empower and encourage all of the cast of characters. It was wonderful to see them grow through the story, I love books that focus on female empowerment. This novel really takes this and spins it into a wonderful read. I would LOVE to see a movie adaptation and I rarely say that. This won’t be the last of Dawn’s books I read and I will be getting The Cows right now. I have never laughed so much reading a book. If you dislike sexual innuendo and blunt graphic sexual scenes and sentences then well this might not be for you given Beth’s chapters focus on the lack of sex between her and her partner. But if like me you have a bit of a dark sense of humour, you’ll fly through this and enjoy the ride — pun not intended!

Fundamentalist feminist action with a dash of bloke.
Funny. Made me laugh. My second delving in to this world of womanly stuff. Not the story was totally worthy but.

absolutely fabulous
This was laugh out loud funny, while also addressing issues faced by some women. I really enjoyed this. The main characters are all dealing with very personal issues and it’s not until the wedding that they all come together and provide the support they each need.

Fun in parts but not The Cows
I was excited to read this after loving The Cows, but couldn't help feeling disappointed. The story - while timely - felt overly saccharine in places in places with its `all girls together` message, and I just didn't believe the character of Ruby. The scene in the nursery was ludicrous. It felt under-edited, as if the publishers had rushed it out to cash in on the success of The Cows and So Lucky suffered as a result. One scene had a character winking so much he probably should have seen an opthamologist.O`Porter can write modern women and awkwardly funny scenarios and there's a positive message in this book but I found myself growing irritated as I was constantly battered around the head with it. I like her podcast and just hope her next book is back up to the standard of her previous.

An extremely entertaining book
So many emotions covered in this book - funny, rude (as in graphic sex rude), sad, thought provoking. You name it! Thoroughly enjoyable and I will be reading more Dawn O’Porter - when I’ve got my breath back ;)

LOVED IT
I pre-ordered this in May, however I was lucky enough to get to read this via The Pigeon Hole in September and so so glad I did. I’ve been a fan of Dawns for years and read all her other work. This has been a fantastic women empowering story. It's a wonderful read. I adore how Ruby's character really evolves, her relationship with her daughter has been very welcoming. Beth and Lauren have been superb, A real delight to get to know all three of them, through their strengths, insecurities, weaknesses, and above all, their determination not to settle. The supporting characters have all been great, in particular Risky. I would love to explore her story more.I received my hardback copy yesterday, and looking to re-read it again over the weekend, it really is laugh out loud funny, moving, touching and the women really get under your skin in a good way.Well done Dawn on another great read, deserves the five stars and more.

A fabulous read!
Thank you @hotpatooties for this spectacular read! 👏🏽 What a superbly fantastic story, I would love to see this book made into a film! 🙌🏽Written so realistically, it’s very easy to get attached to the main characters- Ruby, Beth, Lauren & Risky, not forgetting Bonnie, Michael and Tommy! 😆A great story/book to get lost in, it’s really been fab to enjoy a book again and get lost in a story! From the first page I was hooked, short chapters are a must for me too! 👌🏼This story made me laugh out loud, gasp 😮 and cry! I actually cried a river at the end! 💦 Quite a clever twist to the story, which made me question my life, my parenting and my relationships. 🙈 A very relatable book which was unputdownable! It’s been ages since I’ve enjoyed a book so much! I highly recommend this to everyone! Have a read and remember every woman’s story has two sides!! 😝Simply fabulous and Dawn is now one of my new fave authors!! Looking forward to reading ‘The Cows’ next!#solucky #reading #readingcommunity #authorwannabe #dawnoporter 📖
