DO NOT WASTE $10
The idea of this product is awesome but the quality and effectiveness is not at all! I got this for my pickingese to try and cut down on his grooming visits and to try and not traumatize him when trying to brush out his matts that he gets and this product literally did nothing! I saw it didn't have the best reviews but I thought since his fair is so straight and fine that it would still be great for him but I was so wrong! I should have listened to the reviews!! $10 would have been better spent literally flushing it down the toilet! When I came to my first knot (not even a matt) in his hair and pushed the button the comb didn't even work come on and try to cut it. I tried holding the button down and running it through his hair and still didn't work! As soon as there was even a little snag from a knot the motor shut off. And my poor dog HATED this comb!!! It was either pulling his hair or electrocuting him because he literally flipped out when it hit a knot! And another thing is I put brand new batteries in this thing and this whole ordeal maybe lasted 2-3 minutes and the batteries were DEAD DEAD!!!! I tried to out them in something else and they wouldn't work at all! So I wasted $10 on this comb and then a few dollars for the batteries which were junk in a matter of minutes trying to power this stupid thing!!! They need to use this idea but make a good product that actually works and give the customers who bought this a $10 credit on the new product if we send them this piece of junk! Definitely do no waste the $10 on this!!! It does not work on even the straightest finest hair!!!!

IT IS MY NEW FAVORITE PET ITEM AND PROBABLY WILL NEVER FIND ANYTHING ELSE ...
JUST GOT THIS LAST NIGHT, TRIED IT OUT ON OUR AUSTRALIAN SHEPPARDS AND IT DOES EXACTLY WHAT IT SAYS. USED TO TAKE MY FOREVER TO BRUSH OUT THEIR LONG HAIR AND DEAL WITH THE MATS AND TANGLES, BUT NO MORE!! THE LITTLE CUTTING BLADES LITERALLY LET YOU GLIDE THROUGH THE MATS AND REMOVE THEM WITHOUT LEAVING ANY KIND OF CUTTING LINES OR MARKS IN THEIR HAIR COAT. ABSOLUTELY COULD NOT TELL THAT ANYTHING HAD BEEN CUT AT ALL!! IT IS MY NEW FAVORITE PET ITEM AND PROBABLY WILL NEVER FIND ANYTHING ELSE BETTER!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Good Idea - Poor Product!
The concept and idea are great. The execution is terrible. The cover that holds the batteries continually pops off. The tiniest amount of hair clogs the blades. I have an older Westie so her hair is rather thinned out and not even close in thickness to what it once was and this device stops almost every pass through her hair causing me to have to let her go and clear the clog before proceeding. I wouldn't recommend buying this until they make it actually work as described.

so it is easy to turn it on while trying to hold it ...
I ordered this for my mother at her request, so I didn't read any reviews before ordering. I opened it, put the batteries in it and tried it before giving it to her, so my review is based on a single use. I might amend this after my mother has had it a while. Pros: ~~First and most importantly, IT DIDN'T HURT THE CAT!! We have a cat with long hair, a dense undercoat and very sensitive skin, and he was content to let me comb him with this without getting upset. ~~ The comb looks moderately well built of moderately tough plastic, so it shouldn't break immediately, but it doesn't seem tough enough for frequent use or to last a long time, though time will tell. ~~ The blades did cut when the comb ran into obstruction, and with care did free the comb and clear the problem. ~~The sound of the motor running and blades whirring is soft and didn't scare the cat, though he is a moderately calm cat. A jumpier cat or dog might not tolerate the sound. Cons: ~~ The blades jammed even in minor tangles, so I had to back the comb up a little, engage the blades and ease it through. I never found a true mat to try it on, but I imagine it would require the same efforts. ~~CLEANING! Surely this comb's design could be improved by some design work, as cleaning it was a task and a half. I used a tweezer-like tool, but cleaning took longer than the combing did, and I had to pull out tiny tufts of fur at a time, which then wanted to float away rather than fall politely into the trash. It reminded me of cleaning out my vacuum cleaner head, only with the added adventure of blades that might cut me if I am not careful enough. ~~The battery door pops off, but the cleaning panel has to be unscrewed --- the reverse should be true if anything. I don't get the requirement of the screw, which makes cleaning even more complicated. ~~ The power button is directly opposite the screw, so it is easy to turn it on while trying to hold it firmly to take out the screw, though once the connection loosens the power button no longer works, thank goodness. This comb might be a really great solution for some, but the design could surely be improved. Maybe reciprocating heads so the hair doesn't end up coiled around the center bar? Also, there is no diagram for how the batteries should be inserted, which was not a big deal for me but I foresee a call from my mother to help her with it. Overall, not worth the money unless you have a nervous and sensitive cat and other solutions aren't working for you.

Great idea, horrible product
I was so excited to view the infomercial for this product, even waited to see it again to make sure I got the name of the product correct. Then I visited the manufacturer's website. They were offering a bundle 2 for the price of one and a free gift if you covered shipping. I don't recall the exact amount but it was near $40 bucks. So I purchased a single unit on Amazon instead. First the teeth on the comb are spaced too far apart to be effective for a small breed (8 lb.). It completely misses the small knots before they become mats. When a mat is encountered and you push the button the unit begins to cut, gets hung, pulls the dog's hair and completely stops working. At that point you are thankful for the widely spaced teeth, cause you have to back it out of the dog's coat. I've tried using it several times and ended up disgusted. Knot Out is a great concept, but the product simply does not work.

Ammended: One use wonder
I'm leaving my first submission as there's still a problem, but I changed the stars from one to four. The problem was that hair combed out wound around one of the cutters, stopping the motor. Once it was cleaned, it worked again. It's still a problem that after one use on a dog that had no knots that much hair was caught inside, AND that we have to use a screw driver to get to it. But it is a handy tool, and I now know to check the hair collection... It works very well - when it works. I have a standard poodle, and she actually enjoyed being combed out with this - at least the one time it worked she liked it. I had her cut short for summer so haven't used it again until just today, a month after the last return date... It wouldn't turn on, and I thought it possible that the batteries were no longer good, so I bought new ones. It did turn on for approximately 30 seconds, but then died, not to buzz again. I'm sure this is just a faulty unit, but it is discouraging to buy a product for only one use.

Great Idea, Bad Design
I have a long hair teacup Yorkie. When I first got the comb, she was completely afraid of the noise it made and would run bolt when I would press the button. After several weeks of just letting her listen to the thing, she adapted. But when I finally got to use it on her, it would get stuck on the knots each and every time. I even watched the knotouttips video to make sure I was using it correctly and it still did not work properly. When you hit a knot and press the red button, it does not work all the time and the dogs hair gets stuck in the blades and causes more pain than a regular brush. The comb's teeth are also too far apart to actually catch the mats. I tried it several times until I finally gave up on it. It stalls and stops in mid tangle and it does not seem strong enough to actually go thru the smallest of mats. It's too bad because it was such a great idea. I wish it did work properly.

Garbage
We have a Havanese, so long hair that can knot up is an issue. He hates grooming because it is almost impossible to de-knot him without it being uncomfortable. This unit requires 4 AAA batteries, but it clearly runs an under-powered motor. You are supposed to be able to comb your pet until you run into a knot, then press a red button on the handle which raises and activates rotating blades to cut through the knot. You know what happens to your vacuum brush head if you have a long haired animal? The hair collects on the bar and can actually stop the spin. That is exactly what happens here. It worked for less than 5 minutes. The solution is supposed to be to unscrew the housing covering the back side of the blades, and to use the included plastic pic to try to unwrap the hair. First, who wants to do this every five minutes? Second, the included pic is virtually useless. I tried dropping the batteries out of the handle so it would not accidentally activate and shred my finger tips, then use an awl to pick out the hair, but it never fully cleared the accumulated hair. I reassembled the unit and it bogged down again in less than 2 minutes. Utter waste!
