An important book
A wonderful book that has permanently altered my view of death!

Embracing the Mystery
As noted by another reviewer, the publisher does not acknowledge the original translator (a Benedictine OSB) who put into English the German text of Boros. Otherwise, deep scholarly text with a provocative (as always) commentary / introduction by Cynthia Bourgeault…The Germanic scholarship style needs to be seen in that historical context. The publisher of the new edition dozed off by failing to give notice of the provenance of the Boros text. Boros offers powerful ideas in this textual tradition!

too “Catholic”, scholastic, narrow , exclusive interpretation of death. And…so much rationalizing, heady stuff.
Not recommended. Too much rationalization of wishful thinking. Exclusive interpretation of the meaning of death. Good points about developmental stages of “being” within the “worldly self”, but in a very narrow context.

Includes the original text which is mostly good
This is an excellent book from 1965 and I have an original copy. There is no sub-title in the original, it is simply 'The Mystery of Death.' This reprint does not give the translator or the imprimatur. Not sure why.The author presents a deep and very interesting exploration of the meaning of death in both philosophical and theological ways, primarily Catholic. I was fascinated and learned a great deal which affected my understanding of the 'final choice' after death, until near the end. What seems to happen then is that the author opens the discussion to more general thoughts on what I would call 'cosmic' elements which are not as close to classical thought and Catholicism, so that was a let down.
